Finally he learns the truth...the fact that he knew something was wrong with her when he saw the glued shells speaks a lot to their history. Zijin used food to communicate with him even before they met face to face...so using food to tell him that she can't speak was a brilliant move. He now understands the extent to which his mother pushed her just so she could be by his side. She was willing to suffer in silence in order to protect him. Hopefully they will learn how to communicate better in the future. The pain he felt when he finally knew the truth was heartbreaking...I'm glad he apologized to her. Now they can move forward together.

This series is also phenomenal and I am at a loss why so many criticised Wu Jinyan for her role. Because she was paired with Xu Kai everyone thought it was going to be Yingluo and Fuheng part two but it is in a totally different set up and era. Was it good to see them together absolutely but been attacked because she didn't play the character the same way as Yingluo makes no sense. In this she was a gentle woman who had been harmed not just physically but mentally as the chosen one for the Emperors grandson and was even given his seal of approval. In China, imperial harems constituted an important part of an Emperor's reign. To ensure the continuation of the dynasty, his harem needed to produce male heirs to be groomed as the future successor of the dragon throne. This was not about the romance as such but about what the women of China had to go through just so they could be accepted into the harem. These young girls were picked or sold as young as 6 and then taken into the palace and in some cases were never seen again. This also applied to the males if you were lucky you went into the military if you weren't you were castrated and became a eunuch you had no say in it. Been in the harem was not a picnic. For me this showcases relationships from every aspect whether it was father-son mother-son and so on but the ones that stood out were the discovery of a friendship you never ever expected and no where did that friendship blossom more than between Zijin and Yinping a child of the streets struggling to survive and a young woman who just wanted to cook.
