Historians have long known how the last ataman of the Ural Cossack army, Alexei Tolstov, with the remnants of the army, went to Mangyshlak. The gold of the Ural Cossack army in today's terms is estimated at half a billion dollars. According to the legend about “seven carts of gold of the Ural ataman,” this was reflected in the book “Chekists of Kazakhstan.” After the defeat of part of Kolchak's army under the command of General Tolstov, the military retreated through Fort Aleksandrovsky on Mangyshlak in order to break through to the south and go abroad. When approaching the Buzachi Peninsula, they hid the rest of Russia's gold reserves. Guryev security officers searched for this treasure for 15 years, but to no avail,” says the author of the video, Igor Donchenko.
- The expedition aimed at searching for Alexei Tolstoy’s gold is my first. I studied this story for a year. I wanted to follow the path that the army followed. From Prorva to Alexander Fort (now Fort Shevchenko) - and this particular path is not described anywhere. Several of my friends found in this place ancient breast icons, plaques, in general, things with the imprint of that time. I would like to note that my primary goal is not the treasure itself; I am interested in immersing myself in history, showing the population the amazing places of the region and, perhaps, introducing them to the past.
