Will the 'Co' go away after the process ends? I read that based on different models it might take 10 or 30 min. Regardless of the duration, can I expect the device to switch off by itself at the end of the procedure?

Panasonic AC has a clean feature which is works totally opposite. So I got confused when I bought another LG AC. In Panasonic, the outdoor unit runs for 15 minutes with the indoor fan switched off. This causes ice to form inside the evaporator coils and later on when the fan turns on, this ice condenses into water and removes all the dirt settled in the coils.

For a Bluestar AC (BI-3CNHW12MAFU), for which I have lost the manual, the only way I am able to run the auto clean is as follows: I first need to turn the AC off with the power button. Anytime during the 30 seconds or so that the AC remains on, I press the Auto-clean button. Then the "Cl" symbol comes up on the remote (but not on the AC) and the temperature resets to 25 C. However it still remains in cooling mode. I often get damp unpleasant smell during this period which last for about 15 to 20 mins.
