Honestly I didn't understand why everyone was upset with the OG run. We all know it's China and they would censor things, I was thankful that they did give WangXian the canon happy ending, and that the entire team sidestepped censorship extremely deftly without sacrificing the beauty of the love story. Obviously the SE is WONDERFUL and I love it, but let's not forgot how difficult it is for LGBTQ+ stories to be told in China. And thank you, OP, for slicing together everything for us overseas fans, I can't over this show even now, and I keep rewatching your videos as well as other fans who continue to keep the WangXian flames lit. Having been a BL/Yaoi fan for awhile, I've always found it hard to watch live action or drama adaptations, but The Untamed changed that for me in the most surprising way as I was fully prepared to be let down, but was ecstatically proven wrong. Hope all other WangXian shippers never stop loving this show.

I'm so happy that they kept 90% of what happened in the novel. They changed some things in the original novel and they didn't show any explicit bl stuff but the love between the two is still there. It's also a good thing that they didn't change so many stuff compared to other chinese dramas. I love this drama ❤

To be honest I hope the special edition of untamed ends with the water falls scene that is perfect ending and not like it end it in original version of the series it was sweet ending but they should have let us see Lan Zhan face when he came back to Wei Ying not let us only hear Lan Zhan voice

Mo Dao Zu Shi translates to 'Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation' whereas CQL is the name of the flute 'Chen Qing'(though not sure where the word 'Ling' comes from).

With that, XianXian would eventually know the name of the song, which WangWang composed for both of them. No doubt, they definitely met then and stayed together for good. I think it's for censorship purposes. By doing it like this, there's rlly no indicated intimacy or heart felt reunion type stuff. Better yet, there's no "let's spend the rest of our lives together feeling" when the scenes are in that order. I'm pretty sure they shot them to be arranged in the order above, realized it might be too "forever a gay happy couple" for China's precious eyes and switched up so that the ending is ambiguous enough they can't nitpick at it. Ofc, smart fans like us will notice the odd order and the cloth changes and the time skips. But it's easy for the eyes to overlook if ur just a casual viewer(I was confused abt this ending till someone explained the clothes even tho I read the novel before I watched it). So yeah, an evasion method. Pretty smart actually.

Yeah well Xiao Zhan is working on a new show it would seem. I’m not sure what Yibo is doing. So season 2 is out of the question. But you can still watch the Donghua or read manhua if you want. There’s a little more romance between the two characters there. They also follow as close as they can to the novel. Though CQL did pretty well in following the more gruesome parts of the novel for sure.

I always thought the waterfall scene seemed it should have been the very last scene! Also now makes sense why Xiao Zhan was so panicky insistent that it never happened because he thought the couples happy ending would be cut out for censorship but instead they changed the order of the scenes to make it seem less obvious! WeiYing turning round and smiling at Lan Zhan calling his name was also a pretty powerful and obvious ending. I always wondered why they would part and Lan Zhan immediately goes back to find him though but all makes sense now that this was the version released in Japan! Thank you so much!

But Lan Zhan didn't immediately go back to find Wei Ying in the original drama version. It has been mentioned by many people time and time again that Wei Ying was wearing different clothes when he heard Lan Zhan's voice, plus, he was playing his flute on the same mountain near Cloud Recesses where they parted, which means that it was Wei Ying who came back to Cloud Recesses after some time (might be months, might be even years, but the former is more likely, as I doubt that he would be able to stay away from Lan Zhan for years), not the other way round. Lan Zhan heard Wei Ying's flute playing their song from afar and came to meet him.

I watched it before I read up or search up about the drama coz I don't wanna spoil it. I must be the small percentage of people who understood the ending without the need of explanation. That smile on Wei Ying's face told me he came back for Lan Zhan and Lan Zhan was there to meet him. Even if they didn't scramble the clips, the message do get across. The director and screenwriter did a great job. I hope to see more dramas like this. The Untamed will definitely enter my list to rewatched again and again list 😤

Thank you!! I couldn't get everything together with the different clothes, but now it makes more sense. I just finished the series a second time and this helped me to a better ending. Damn the censorship. I wanted at least a hug between them..😭❤️🥰 . They are so wonderful. So perfect casting. And so beautiful series. wow after watching your vid, i am actually truly convinced that was the correct sequence of the scenes, only that the team chopped it up and rearranged them so it won't be so obviousss. chronologically wise, it actually makes more sense. thought the official ending is great already but your idea of the true "hidden" ending scene works well too :D wish u didn't fast forward the rearranged 4 scenes though... possible to post one normal speed one for the combined rearranged scenes? will be like a legit alternate ending ~

I always thought the waterfall scene should've been the ending scene since the camera zooms out and it's a final scene technique. I wonder why they didn't go in order with the scenes?

I was just watching it again for like the fourth time maybe and only just noticed when he said "Wei Ying" he had to be next to him. Also that smile can only been seen when he has Lan Zhan in front of him. How I missed those details and felt it was a sad ending of him being left on his own I don't know. Thanks to your video I was able to notice other things I missed. Now I don't feel as a sad when I watch this drama anymore. I thought it was a bittersweet ending but in reality it was the beginning of them starting their life together. :)

The most important thing of all is that you don't give those expression to your bro, sis, or best friend. Those expressions are for your lover, your soulmate. And for someone like me who started this with the drama especially, I can say that Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji's facial expressions made it so even people who didn't know this was BL could understand that they had a special bond/connection unlike the rest of the characters. This drama has entered my top 3 on my favorite series.

All though they did film it, the director made it twice more beautiful by cutting it out. Showing a end to one thing, and a new begining to another. It's only natural to not be able to keep going or keep something going. Nothing always goes as planned, and we humans dont see that nor accept that We drown our sarrows, as time goes on but we can never forget those moments. Some can move on and go on with there life but some.. cannot. Witch is what the story was saying, All though they met, had there fights, happiness, moments, and playfulness together. They separated on the mountain meaning a new begining and an end to another. They never met afterwards, it's not a sad nor a happy ending. 💜

Even in the original drama ending Way Ying hears Lan Zhan's voice at the very end and then obviously sees him approaching - we can even see Lan Zhan's reflection (a figure in white) in his eyes. At first he looks sad, as he probably thinks Lan Zhan's voice was only in his head, but then when he really sees him approaching after a moment, he smiles happily. Secondly, the special edition in which the order of the ending shows them staying together was released by the original production team of the series - it's not some fan edition. And that is just further proof that they really meet again and stay together for life.

Finalmente entiendo esa escena que a veces se muestra en la piedra gris sobre la cascada, porque no está en ningún lado en la serie, y si se fijan bien, es lo que en una entrevista decía Yibo explicando como era el lugar y XZ decía que no entendía y el otro seguía y seguía, hasta que XZ para cortar dijo que igual no era importante, se ve que él sabía lo que había pasado pero Yibo no. Me encantó este video. La producción ha hecho un gran trabajo para poder pasar la censura, y los chicos lograron controlarse para hacerlo bien, pero si uno quería saber la verdad, la realidad, solo tenía que ir a ver los detrás de cámara, eso sí me hizo soñar. Pero la dulzura de este video vino a colmar el ambiguo final del drama. Gracias.

as a very new fan to this tv show (yes I'm late but it's still flowing around the western world;) I'm impressed how they made it. they show a deep friendship and relationship without really showing it (like kisses, hugs, confessions like ILY)😄 and the chinese censorships knows the hints too, they are not dumb. So the production had to be selective with the hints too.🥴 But they still managed to do such a good (slow burn )show. But it's normal to feel this mixed feelings and tension, I always ask myself: IF they only added one more like just a quick hug or more focus on hands holding...then it would be perfect!. But then it would have been censored or maybe production stopped (I read this happened to another BL show). That's why there are no wangxian-outtakes cause they know they were filmed (or it would somehow leak). And I'm sure with these strict lgtb rules in china every foottage supporting wangxian stuff would have put the whole production in danger of censoring the shit out of them (or banning). For us in the West it's hard to understand this, but now I'm impressed and thankful how they manged to walk on that fine line ❤️🙌
