EngA - How to trouble shoot pilot issue “XE model”

Here’s some tips and tricks on how to trouble shoot pilot issue on EngA XE units. Customer said they’ve had problems with this unit since day one and nobody has ever figured it out.

Good catch! I would of thought the roll out was from a plugged heat exchanger due to years of maxitrol satisfying from highfire cycling to low fire, depending on discharge location of course . I could totally see guys dropping the" W.C to combat the roll out , instead of looking for a bad spark rod location. I hope you can post more vid's on XE's , like differnt macitrol series systems "20/21" etc. Maybe touch on the new gas train upgrades ,like why they have capisitors now and why only fenwal spark ignition, etc.. Engineered air is forcing these upgrades when gas valves fail.

The capacitor helps boost the signal from the ignition board to the flame rod. The ferrite cores wrapped around the 24v hot and neutral help reduce electrical interference (noise generated by the spark) back to the ignition board, to increase the overall flame signal.

Did you confirm with eng air if that was actually incorrect? I've worked on a few XEs and they all have that same ignitor that sparks on the same place. I do agree it should spark at the pilot runner instead.
