With all the injustices going on our world today, your stories bring such a reprieve. I'm in my 70s and thoroughly enjoy the escape they bring. From the beginning of time people have suffered while throughout this same time people who have the ability to overcome pain and suffering have prevailed for many. Thank you for the gentle reminders that love allows many to maintain a modicum of happiness. Riches do not bring happiness. If we have love amongst our family, friends and mankind in general then all is not lost. ❤

I know I should choose a main character as my favourite but honestly Sarah the maid was my favourite character in this book.She is advisor, carer, protector and mediator for Millie. I loved the fox imagery especially since Millie becomes Lady Fox and foxes are smarter than cats which is the imagery around Lady Olivia. I am eager to see the redemption of Lord Neil. He shows honour in this story. Particularly when he says he did not want to let Millie down so he involves his father. My favourite scene is Isaac and Millie calling each others bluff at the ruins over their kissing prowess. Thank you for dealing empathetically with PTSD and its impact on Isaac. It really is not a simple healing over time.

This was my favorite in the series! Something about Sir Isaac intrigued me from the first. I was bidding my time to get to his story 😊. SLIGHT SPOLERS AHEAD. Having a hero that didn't react in anger or push the heroine away when a lie/secret is revealed was so refreshing! He cared for her enough to think selflessly and want to help and protect her from Lady Olivia's schemes. I've read many romances and that does not happen....You have a way of creating drama and tension that isn't the normal miscommunication or other common tropes. I love it!

This is such a hard to book to listen to. I was in tears a few times. I've read a lot of Regency where a scandal is referred to and that a family or only the woman that the scandal originated with was ruined in society. It's alluded to in Pride and Prejudice and is the most heroic effort of Darcy's that convinces Elizabeth's heart that he is a good man when she hears he has saved her sister. I read P&P variations and occasionally I'll read one where Lydia's elopement never resulted in marriage and the reaction of the town against the Bennets. More than one Regency depicts the double standard of continuing to accept and fawn over the male counterpart of a scandal because 'he's good ton,' after he has ruined one or more families. And even worse, that since the man is of nobility he can get away with things we would cheerfully send P&P's Wickham to New South Wales for. This story explored how devastating the scorn of society was against another ton family because of a broken engagement. The vindictiveness of the 'mean girls' Millie got herself mixed up with was shocking. That badness of course made the triumph at the end even better. I loved Isaac's slow melting. You knew what was going to happen, of course but not how it was going to happen and it was just so lovely to watch the two of them come together. I didn't know how you were going to pull it off in the end. I loved that!!

I wonder when Neil‘s sister will get her life lesson. Will she change for the better or will she only be bitter forever. Imagine if lady Olivia‘s mother put her up to the task of going by herself to Isaac’s house. In this book, it shows that Neil has been playing a part for a very long time. @@AuthorSallyBritton Hi Sally: LOL...No offense intended. I got irritated with Milicent, because she kept giving in to Olivia. @abell5092 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it. Half way through and I am unhappy with Millie. Her reasons for deceiving a good man are shallow, even if she reaches her goal there is no guarantee Olivia will keep up her end of the bargain and a quarter of the way in I was shouting at the book "Oh for heavens sake! If your conversation with Isaac is so frank, just ask him already why he and Olivia are on the outs!" Meanwhile there are reems of her internal speculation, worry and flip flopping about. She lacks bravery and intelligence and we spend half the book unable to cheer her on because her goals include deceiving our hero and social climbing ambitions to marry above him. I'm waiting for her to be redeemable. Heading into the bonfire scene. We'll see.. She's the first heroine I don't like. The rest in the other stories are lovely. :) I assume a turn about for Millie is forthcoming. It would be nice if more adult books wrote heroines like YA i.e. The Hunger Games. We don't get stuck in her head whilst she goes in circles. We learn her by her actions and words. Men call Millie out again and again both Olivia's brother and Isaac. It's impossible to see this woman as anything but unworthy and shallow. Edit: half an hour left and I kind of hate her. She's still crying in fear and cruelly tormenting Isaac. And after declaring victory through sacrifice, she doesn't even verify her win with Olivia to ensure the pay off. 🤦 This is a big mess. There isn't enough time left in the story for her to suffer enough in penance to redeem herself.
@AuthorSallyBritton2 жыл бұрын
@@abell509 How very sad. I suppose, as the author, I know a great deal more about Millie than even what readers see. I also find most readers dislike it when it's the heroine undergoing the majority of the growth and change in a book.

I've been a lifelong student of various aspects of history. Everything from war to etiquette to fashion and medicinals. These are fabulous tales that (thank you very much) aren't "bodice busters". I love historical novels, but detest romance novels. Your work is historically accurate in things that matter and I've, for the first time in my life, truly enjoyed this type of work. It's engaging, socially proper, the dialogues (both spoken and inner) do not deviate from actual historically correct thought and action. To answer a question, yes, I fully believe that lord Neil is much more than anyone believes. I believe that he is both intelligent and wiley enough to have trained even his family to believe he's the epitome of the third son. (I can't say he's truly devious, simply clever and patient) However, he's not truly engaged in third son behavior. He plays the rake, but does not gamble, doesn't overly imbibe (if at all, I'm on my first listen and have been binging). He cares for his family but despises their actions. He's in fashion, but isn't being hounded by creditors. I even believe that his forwardness with a married woman had underlying intent. Either he's bolstering his questionable reputation, or more likely, testing the waters to see exactly what sort of people his neighbors truly were, as opposed to the den of vipers his own family is. Or I could be completely mistaken, lol. Either way, thank you!

I enjoyed reading this so much! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. And you're exactly right about several of my ideas while writing. He existed in something of an echo chamber with his family and the friends that came along with them. When your only examples of normalcy are so terribly wrong, deviating from the path they've taught you is difficult. When Neil can suddenly act without fear of retribution, think through things himself rather than fall into old habits, he has the opportunity to discover another path.

This series, that's totally true! I love the sea. And Inglewood, the main estate in the story, is based on a castle that is on the shores of the Black Sea.

Oooo. I have to ask. Do you use the timestamps as bookmarks? If so, that's so clever. Or are you marking something else?

The research indeed is commendable. The characters and the story lines are wonderful in all your books. I'm really fond of your books, you did a marvelous job capturing attention and keeping attention throughout the entire book, however if I may, from all the history I've been exposed to, during that time women died from pregnancies and/or lost their babies quite a bit. It was a real and valid danger back then. The way sometimes you have your characters act with quotes I'm pregnant I'm not an invalid is very not believable to me. I hope you don't take my opinion in a bad way, I mean no offense, I really do like your books.

Reading journals written at the time, women weren't always worried. Nor did they die as often as films and books would have us think, though there certainly was a higher mortality rate than now. Just as today, we have women who never experience morning sickness and those who do (I did with 3 of my 4 pregnancies), the experience was very unique to the individual. I do have characters who are more delicate than others, but some are more robust and confident.
