Chris, my deepest condolences! As a drag racer in my teens (late 1970's) I had plenty of hard lessons with part failure. I've been autocrossing a 1969 Corvette for the past 20 years, and let me tell you, the Accusump is your only friend in this sport; spun bearings galore without it. My vote is for a broken crank, inflicting the secondary damage you see on the outside. My saddest story comes from a gen 2 Camaro racer that had two LT1 350 motors built at the same time. He spun bearings in both of them in three weeks time, and nearly caused a divorce. She did calm down, after a good while, as she is a Saint..... Cheers, Ron.

I'm not good at guessing these things, Chris - but I'll just offer to buy a dang tee shirt if that helps? Ok fine, a guess - water entered a cylinder through a blown head gasket, causing a bit of hydrolock - which in turn caused a broken rod, which ventilated the block. How's that for a W.A.G.? - Ed on the Ridge

My guess is that a piston broke and took out the rod then ventilated the block . Hopefully it didn't destroy the crankshaft or the camshaft . Best Wishes & Good Luck . Keep Us updated Thank You . 🇺🇲 🇵🇷 🦊 👍

Sounds like a broken rod took everything with it. Been there done that!

Hindsight is 20/20. Your going rounds, you figure the weather conditions are the reason for the e.t. drop-off. If it means anything, I've "greased down" a track and earned the ire of my former competitors. My guess is a rod let go.

Dang. Sorry to hear that. I’m going to guess that a rod cap broke. 🤷♂️
