That is a compressor stall not a compressor surge, a compressor surge will cause a reversal of airflow throughout the engine, due to the sudden drop of pressure in the compressor causing the higher pressure from the HP compressor and combustion chamber to reverse. This is due to the sudden large disruption of airflow throughout the engine causing the compressor to trade in air velocity instead of pressure. That is the reason you have the back flow because high pressure goes to low pressure and the pressure of the exhaust is higher than the intake pressure through the compressor.
