Breaking down my SBC 350 to check on the headgaskets

I had the same problem, I ran my engine hot coming home from work. The water pump gasket was leaking from behind the impeller. Got home with a temp of 230 degrees, steaming! Anyway next day I fixed the waterpump gasket and seen water pouring out my exhaust and checked the oil, mixed water. So I pulled the engine for a complete rebuild. When it only needed new sealant on the head bolts! Live and learn!

Is the reason why he had moisture in the value covers? Did you know that he spun a bearing because his head bolts became loose, giving play between parts. I've heard that it is best to replace head bolts with new ones.

Deck those heads and use regular gaskets, always clean threaded taps and use new head bolts. Once heat stretched, torque value changes in heat cycles

Had the same problem on Olds 350 after changing gaskets 3-4 times went with Arp bolts head bolts and intake bolts,bolts wore down from the excessive heat ranges.

You could always run it a few times get the heads hot and recheck the torque on the head bolts ive seen a lot of the guys that i hang with do that the head gaskets aare not steel shims like the old days there composite based material so its good to re torque them you know what i mean.

Think you just felt like changing the gasket again :)

i wouldn't trust a mechanic if my life depended on it, but if you're doing the job yourself always use new bolts, thread lock & new gaskets. Most importantly, torque the head bolts in correct order & to proper spec e.g 32Nm +90 degrees +another 90 degrees

Stretched head bolts or you used ATV on threads instead of antisieze or oil

wut if was intake gasket, could valve train get milk shake? mine has both heads with it...so I'm suspecting intake blown gasket

Same thing with me I’m thinking I just blew a intake recently

It's definitely possible. Check the gasket between the water passages on the intake. Good luck with it!

@@ZanesGarage rusty sludge prob from sitting forever in water passages both heads where connects to intake (back of engine closest to distributor) any ideas how clean that out? not easy with rags!! Also forgot to mention pressure of cold Rad. when I pulled off cap the water leaked out...

Not with the head gaskets but I'm currently rebuilding it because of a spun bearing

@@ZanesGarage What caused a spun bearing??
@peacepoet194710 ай бұрын
I guess we will never know.
@peacepoet194710 ай бұрын
@@ZanesGarageI believe that the bearing spun because of lack of lubricant. Possibly because of water during the time that the engine isn't running.
