One of the reasons the 2nd vehicle (Engine) was blowing his siren so much, was because it was a response at around 5pm and that's "going home from work" time in Harrisburg, PA. The Engine vehicle didn't want to get squeezed by an impatience driver on his/her way home from work (thinking that the Ladder Truck was the only fire vehicle coming thru. I live and shop in this area of Pennsylvania. The fire call started on Linglestown Road (3 blocks from the town square) and ended about two miles away at the corner of Heatherfield Way and Nye's Road.

Glare or reflection during a snowstorm tends to be a problem with the roof mounted warning lights. The clear bulb's sweeping patterns on a roof mounted unit tends to interfere with visibility through the windshield. The Roto Rays unit, being located on the nose of the truck, does not have this problem. Roto Rays warning light unit is made up of 3 sealed beam lights which rotate in a vertical plane at 200 RPM. The Roto Rays units are claimed to have been in use for the past 65 years

@Macade76 This is in Lower Paxton Township in Dauphin County, PA, USA. There are three volunteer companies that cover the twp and this run was into another's coverage area. I had an incident about 9 years ago and the response of the Linglestown and other companies was amazing. I was around 2 miles away and they were on scene in no time. Everything was ok. I had a malfunctioning wood stove.

Cars pulling up onto the median at 3:00 FTW!!! I will never see anything like that here in California. I damn near pull my hair out and have an aneurysm every time I respond, and all I drive is a Tahoe. Can't imagine a rig like that. Props to the driver for some serious skills.

Did I hear on the radio that this fire was in the Teraces? I think i remember this one. I live less than a quarter of a mile from that location.

We have 4 minute or less response times in urban California. I am not sure if that's driving time though. I enjoy watching these videos but I am amazed at the distances they travel in the areas of the country. I noticed that in the European videos also. They drive even farther.

@bradtaylor3217 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. Although I love the sound of the Q, you have a ladder in front moving the majority of traffic. I'd probably use horn and electronic siren only in that case.
@CTFD1317 жыл бұрын
yup. one fatal MVA, where 333 was first due, next in rescue engine was like 10-15 min. away. and DCFD special requested 333 due to its dual role, and off-duty DCFD members staffing it, and PG county denied it.

@Toysoldier55 99.9% of the time, the fire department doesn't own a helicopter! For a medical call, they call for an air ambulance service (PHI, CareFlite, LifeFlight), and for a fire, state and US forest service.
@rickfire197117 жыл бұрын
I know that was a joke-believe me i bet if volunteers were able to have sirens and Q's we would be loving it,and i looked up online for a roto ray-they only come in red and blue colors.and they are huge.
@drunkpolice17 жыл бұрын
In New York, they banned the Q because it echoes off the walls of the building and it " damages" civilian's Hearing. It's loud. Some other cities says it's too loud and it reached over the legal rate. Power call is really loud also. So there are restrictions. The Rotor Ray, money money money. There are certain

You must be safe. Better the place burn to the ground than people get killed or injured en route. People have died from fire trucks en route to whaturned out to be a false alarm or situation like this where it was determined they were not needed.

@canadianboy40. Geeze, we call for a Med-Flight like two or three times a year, and you make it sound like you call for one every call. Ours however comes out of Boston, and we're down on Cape Cod, not cheap to use it, Only when they're critical do we call, and they fly to Mass. General. Our hospital on Cape though is one of the top hospitals on the east coast.
