I have a 2014 mirage with a three cylinder and it shakes like this. At first I thought there was an issue with a motor mount or it needed a tuneup then I found out due to balancing this is what they do... However, I love the 49 mpg I get from it. Saved me over $3000 this past year on gas. Funny. I paid $3000 for the car....

4 cylinders are the best. Funny to see water going to the right position due to vibrations. 3 cylinders want to rotate end to end without mounts and 4 want to rotate vertically as 2nd order vibration include.

I drive both 3 and 4 cylinder petrol engines and in normal driving it is an unnoticeable difference. I also have an in-line 6-cylinder (diesel) and a (petrol) V8 - and it's a completely different world, smooth running, great power without shaking from idle. The 3 vs. 4-cylinder fight is ridiculous, both engines shake and it doesn't matter what you buy - and if someone wants a smooth ride, they have to reach for a 6-cylinder or more.

No doubt, 6 cylinders are smoother. But 4 cylinders are less shaky as compared to 3 cylinders. Try switching on AC at idle in a 3 cylinder car and you will feel the difference

@Faiz I have a 3-cylinder car, specifically a Škoda 1.0 TSI with a manual transmission and a 4-cylinder Honda 1.5i also with a manual. The 3-cylinder TSI vibrates very little at idle (only slightly more than the 4-cylinder) and the start of the air conditioning compressor is imperceptible even at idle. I admit that the 4-cylinder is more balanced and vibrates less, but it is (at least for me) a negligible difference. Both my cars - 4 and 3 cylinder have gasoline engines without a dual-mass flywheel. But it is true that the TSI has quite soft engine silentblocks that dampen the engine vibrations quite a bit.

Vibration also bad for CVT transmission because CVT is more sensitive than automatic.

Bro gr yaris and gr corolla as long as they are three cylinder will share same problem. It’s impossible to make three cylinder engine balance and smooth
