Engineer Tosses Me Something! Heavy Rock Train With Single Locomotive! Listen To It Work THE HILL!

Heavy Rock Train With A Single Locomotive Working Hard Up Williamsburg Hill! Locomotive Running Long Hood Forward Like The Norfolk & Western Railway Days! Engineer Tosses My Something But I Didn't Know! Train Chase On Cincinnati Eastern Railroad With Both Sides Of Train Filmed. This Is The Norfolk Southern Peavine Line In Southern Ohio.
I was working in the yard when I heard the train horn in the distance. I guessed that they were heading westbound so I headed to the railroad crossing on Eastwood Road in Mount Orab, Ohio. Before the train arrives we take a look at the remains of 4 rock cars that had been stored on the siding. The cars were scraped down and the pieces will be removed soon.
The first time that we see the train I filmed the engineer side of the locomotive. It is running long hood forward and believed to be pulling about 10 cars. These are gondola cars loaded with rock from Hanson Quarry at Plum Run, Ohio. The rock shuttle runs to Roundbottom Road in Milford, Ohio for unloading. Right now the trains are unloaded from the main line but soon a siding will be built.
Then we go to Williamsburg, Ohio to see the train going up the hill. The locomotive is an EMD SD40-2 and is working hard going up the curvy hill. The engineer tossed me an Operation Lifesaver keychain but I didn't notice it until after I put the video together. After I downloaded the video I noticed it so I stopped at Williamsburg the next morning on my way to film trains and found it laying in the road. I already had the video completed so I couldn't add a picture of it but I will in a future video. It's pretty cool and Scott, 1960gambit has the exact same thing.

I got a derby hat once when I was 15. I had it until hurricane Katrina. There was a hand car before the train and it flew off a guy's head. I grabbed it and got out of the way. I held it up in waved it to the loc, the conductor motioned for me to put it on my head and gave me a thumbs up. I wore it all the time.

Guess it's better that you picked up that nail with your shoe instead of picking it up with your tire like we just did. Ours was a piece of sheet metal that cut one tire and punctured another. Damage was not repairable even though the tire was relatively new cause it was a slice and not round. Nice video as usual.

Might as well make the most out of a sunny day and brighten it up even further with a CCET train. Apparently they went out and bought a few more of these big gondolas and while they no longer are hauling Steel their durability allows for the heavy Rock loading. Ironically. That pile of scrap from the cut up hoppérs is almost looking like it's a art display what's the way of the sun strikes certain pieces while others have multi-levels of rusting. They might be trying to salvage a few pieces like the wheels and axles Most wrecks today cut up everything show as to avoid liability with minor cracks or fractures on wheels or frames. Time for the Oktoberfest bonfire

Engineer wave is always fun! Chessie is a special pup for sure - I had a Deerhound like that. We had an old Erie Lackawanna track behind our farm - every summer I'd wind up stepping on a nail. Probably held the record for tetanus shots. One tiime I tripped and had one right through my hand.

It's cool they are using that SD40-2. Maybe someday they can upgrade and get a hold of one of the SD60M's that Union Pacific has been selling. They certainly have alot of pulling power! Watco has purchased some along with other shortline railroads.

That Eastwood siding was never very long. In the 1950s it only went about that far on the other side of the road before it tied in again. I don't know what its purpose was. Ain't it great when you get presents from engineers?

I saw the hand movement but didn't see anything leaving the Conductor's hand. I say "Conductor" because the Engineer's station / Control stand is on the other side of the cab and leaving the controls is normally a big "No-No."
