Try as I might I just cant call this art. It is more engineering and physics and fluid dynamics. the better you are at those things the better your lures come out. Even colours get scientific when you look at the interaction with water colouration and such. it is for sure science over art.

Just wanted to share something with you, I really enjoy your channel and the info you give us. I live in Fla. and now I'm 63 yrs.old my father was a avid salt and fresh water fisherman and in the early 60s started using a injection molding machine to make clear 2 part fishing lures which he would mold from live fish i.e. Pinfish and other Baitfish. the 2 sided body's were clear and he would put different insert's in i.e. silver foil and sometimes glitter and glue the body's together and then add the line tie and hook hardware. I always felt that he was way ahead of his time because i'm not even sure if Mirrolure was doing that at that time. Sadly because of having children and having to raise a family he was never able to expand on what he was doing or even market it. Remember at that time almost all lures were made of wood. He also dabbled in make plastic worms but the plastic at that time was not that soft but he still made some. I still wonder to this day what would have happened if he had the financial resources to continue and expand. It brings to mind the old saying that everything that is old is new again. Thanks for letting me share.

If you published a book on all your engineering calculations for building lures, I'd be at the front of the line to purchase one! I know what you're doing is simple for folks who have Degrees. But, I find it quite amazing how one can know so much about applying weight, and balancing a lure, before even so much as whittling the first notch!

I would so love to do this with a fire tiger husky jerk. They are so hard to find in stores anymore. But my painting skills just are good enough to reproduce that one of a kind color scheme. It's probably a confidence thing, but I can out fish just about every fire tiger variation with a rapala. I've tried the cheap lures I've tried the expensive ones, rapala fire tiger always wins, typically by over 5 to one, all other things being equal. Maybe someday I'll get the painting process figured out. That's a fantastic replica, you have to update us after on the water experiments and see if it fishes as well as the original. Great job!

Can't believe I stumbled across this particular video of yours. The Rapala Twitching Rap is my absolute favorite juvenile tarpon lure. They love it! I am dumbfounded that Rapala quit making such an awesome lure. The biggest problem with it is that I think it is made of balsa wood and is easily damaged. Especially by such an aggressive and hard fighting fish as the tarpon. Since they don't make it anymore it is the only lure in my box that I won't share. I've never used the chrome version though. If you want to test the effectiveness of your lure compared to the original send me a couple and I will put it to the test! Super cool and informative video.

Definitely subscribing to this channel! I’m not an engineer yet, but studying mechanical engineering and I love to fish and am old enough to have seen some favorites discontinued. That being said, I just took Statics last semester and I’m trying to think about what little I learned regarding fluid displacement in that course to apply it to understanding your volume calculation. In that class, we only used that concept to focus on the forces applied to the submerged body by the water column above it and the water surrounding it by integration. How does the displaced water volume directly correlate to it’s weight on the scale? It seems like it would be pushed in all directions, not just the -y-direction measured by the scale.
@RefinerSimilitude
@RefinerSimilitude Жыл бұрын
It must be this: “Buoyancy and flotation are based on Archimedes' principle, which states that the force, called the buoyant force, that lifts (buoys) upward a floating or submerged body in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid that would be in the volume displaced by the fluid.” The body of the lure is equal and oppositely pushing against the upward buoyancy force downward to the scale. That’s why you say you’re holding it as steady as possible, to get the most accurate reading. The reading is most accurate when the lure is held completely still. Very cool.

Hi Franco, Basically you showed as 2 main ways to calculate lures volume: 1-By math, through the density of a given material 2- by weight, submerge the lure in water, weighting the water displacement. In your videos you did this 2nd method in 2 different ways, as you are showing in this video or through a "pipe system". I tried to experimenting a lot doing multiple times volume measurement of the same lure through the above mentioned 3 ways and I always end up with differences of 1.5 to 2 grms between these 3 different methods. It sounds a lot, I was expecting smaller numbers, differences of less than a gr, my tests repeated several times proved wrong. "Big" differences like this are normal? Probably the volume calculation through material density is the more reliable method, what do you think? Thanks 🙏 a lot is never enough!!!!!!!
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 10 ай бұрын
There can be quite a bit of variation when you use the overflow water displacement method. I have found that the calculated density/volume method is most accurate if (big if) you are accurate with your measurements and have a good scale with a display to two decimal points (1/100 of a gram). I have been showing the weight in water method lately because I think the average craft person can get the best results that way. But, you have to be carful with surface bubbles and touching the bottom or sides of the container. And, again, a good scale is important.
@lannabulls
@lannabulls 10 ай бұрын
Thanks, I got good scale, 2 decimal points and I use a large deep container, touching sides or bottom is not a problem. bubbles I don't know, I don't see any, in any case I always add one drop of soap as you told. One final question sorry, Cause the most reliable method should be through material density, how do you calculate it in case of resin lure: Do you cast a cube of ONLY resin? measuring then volume and weight or Do you cast a cube of resin and microbaloons then do measurement? Thanks 🙏 so much!

I've had other BPM baits kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!

Good as always, thanks so much! About polyuretan resin density, 0.9 x ml, How did you get this info, resin "user manual"? About spraying Chrome, could you please explain in details all ingredients Needed? Sorry to mind here where i am living we dont have easy products reperibility as over there in Florida, I found a spray Chrome set that works with the gun that you show, that takes 4 different chemical ingredients, 3 of them come with hardener. What about your system, how many ingredients, how many of them come with hardener? Thanks so much for your excellent work!!!!!!

You can’t buy that badger ghost golden yellow anymore in USA. Any other suggestions for a gold chrome? I’m literally buying every gold on the market and can’t find one I like.
