ROOKIES, You can do this! I am someone who if you pointed at something under the hood of my '04 Tacoma I couldn't tell you what it was before the project. There were some hardships, for instance, making sure you put the ignition coils back on the diagram correctly. My truck was misfiring when everything was finished because I rushed and put the coils on wrong. All in all, took me a total of 12 ish hours of labor and I got this done with my family. I learned a lot about my vehicle and am happy I did this instead of taking it into the dealer saving over $300. Engineered Mojo thank you so much for this video. Keep making other people's day!

This video was 100% on track. Perfect details and to the point. Made the job super easy to follow along. I did have one problem that came up and I may not be the only person to experience this. As my truck is just about to hit 350,000 miles, when I was disconnecting the connectors for the fuel injectors, on every single on of them, the retaining tab to keep them locked in broke off. Touching them was just enough to do it! Looks like the mechanic who cleaned my fuel injectors may have experience this also. There was some gray material he placed into the connector to keep them together. Maybe some sort of silicone caulk? So now I don't want to leave these to chance covered by the plenum to come loose. Any suggestions? I hate to think of having to crimp new connectors on. But I can't just leave them like this to possibly fail.
@EngineeredMojo
@EngineeredMojo 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the solid video feedback :) Very common issue!! Haha, I actually ran across this on my older Honda recently. I ended up just buying a new injector connector i.e. the plastic head connector. Honda (and Toyota) have a special depinning tool to pop each wire out the back of the connector. No splicing is needed, but it is a delicate process if you haven't done it before. If you'd rather not do that, I've seen others ziptie or electrical tape around the connection after in place. They had no complaints at all

Thanks for all of the very helpful videos including this one. How do you remove the front camshaft plugs, which are sandwiched between the camshaft and the timing belt backing plate? Do you need to unbolt all of the semi-circular holders securing the camshaft?
@EngineeredMojo
@EngineeredMojo Жыл бұрын
Glad the videos have been helpful! For the front camshaft seal, you do need to remove the front sprockets and timing belt backing plate. After that there is a special tool you can purchase that will have a small lip that fits underneath cam seal and will pull it out without having to unbolt all of the caps or remove camshafts. If you google camshaft seal removal tool, I believe the company is YSL that makes a tool. Should be a few other companies as well, hope that helps!

Well I am about to undertake this project and this was a very concise yet super helpful walk through. 1 question. I had the timing belt done by a mechanic 1 year ago so they Hopefully did the right thing and replaced the front cam seal. Because it is not part of this procedure I assume it will not cause a new leak since the front cam seal should of been properly seated the the sealant applied and torqued down properly or would you not risk it and take the extra step to also do the front seal?
@EngineeredMojo
@EngineeredMojo 11 ай бұрын
I personally do not change the front cam seals unless I have a current issue or visually seals appear damaged. The chance of a leak is rare enough there that I take the risk not to go through that extra work. However, I don't blame those who do for any extra peace in mind they want

Was just taking a look at this after a repair shop gave me a $550 estimate to replace a slightly leaky seal. I was expecting a cover and a few bolts and done. Stupid intake manifold… still, $550, even if it takes all day this is more than i would make at work in a day. I think the key is having all the needed replacement gaskets for everything before starting. Once you start that truck is going nowhere until you finish.

@EngineeredMojo

Could have a bad seal around the spark plug tube seal that is leaking onto spark plug. For spark plug issues, I always swap plugs between cylinders to see if the issue switches cylinders. If it does then I know it's probably a spark plug issue. If not then it may be an issue internal to the cylinder
