As an engineer you only give the captain what he needs not what he wants- to preserve ones reputation as a miracle worker

So make no mistake ..weapons engineers are put on the SCC and camp stations ..monitoring and helping to run the ship/sub.... On a sub at least .. everything that was said for the ME's cab be said for the WE's ..

I saw a recent video with the bridge of a warship everybody was there giving their views on a Russian warship. When I was in the navy the only people on the bridge were the captain and OOW. Nobody was interested in a ratings view.

At least the skills are readily transferable to the merchant service, if one so desires. There is a severe shortage world-wide of engineering, navigation and electro-technical officers in the merchant service. The monterary compensation is unbelievable and the (union) pension plans are fair to good. Time on/off is now generally 1:1, however, much dependant if working a union-contracted company or not. Of course our US cousins are compensated the highest, however, being from Canada, even with the lower currency relative the US, the pay is still quite phenomenal. A 2nd Engineer or a 1st Mate can make upwards of £14500 (C$25000) per month (in a union-contracted company). Lots of opportunity, especially the engineering side...

Is it all engineering though or are there actually other roles in the Navy. Because it seems like all the Navy seems to advertise is just engineering roles as if there’s no other positions available! That is unless you’re going in to be an officer.
@fufustick7305 жыл бұрын
Daniel Whyatt google it! There are many other roles in the navy

They're advertising for roles that they're short of. Don't get sucked into a trade that you don't want to be in. There's loads of other trades.

When I was in the RN you did long technical training to end up cleaning. Seemed the navy just needed a lot of cleaners. Nobody was interested in your views you just did as you were told to do backed up by vicious discipline. Until you were 30 you were treated as a child.

"engineer" More accurately, you'll be an apprentice mechanic, maybe you could call yourself an apprentice engineer after 5 years of experience minimum
