Concrete is the most used building material in the world, and precast concrete components and structures provide a creative way to extend the use of concrete. As the construction industry faces the increasing challenges of climate change, energy saving, and environmental protection, structural engineers need a new vision for the potential of precast structures.
Precast concrete construction offers a host of notable benefits, from increased speed of construction, use in challenging installation applications, to reducing materials cost, waste and need for on site labor.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Learn the general principles of precast concrete
- Gain insights into key features and benefits of design for manufacturability and assembly
- Understand the reduction of costs and construction time that precast concrete has to offer
- Hear precast concrete case studies from key projects
SPEAKER
Robert Aldrich, BE(Civil) MIEAust
National Precast Specialist, Technology | Engineering | Knowledge (TEK), John Holland Group
Engaged in the precast concrete industry for over 40 years.
Comprehensive knowledge of most forms of precast including architectural panels (polished, acid etch, patterned, coloured, off-form), civil products (retaining walls, box culverts, public domain furniture), structural components (external load bearing facades, reinforced and pre-stressed beams/slabs, columns, hollow core flooring and walling, transfloor, shear walls, insulated walls, stairs, plats, balustrades), 3D product (prison cells, burial crypts).
Recent projects include the Sydney Football Stadium Redevelopment, The Coliseum at Rooty Hill RSL, North West Metro (Sydney), WestGate Tunnel Project (Melbourne).
Currently with the John Holland Group in the TEK (Technology, Engineering, Knowledge) division providing precast expertise to existing projects and working with bid teams within the organisation.
