Another interesting tidbit: they provided 600VDC HEP - a lot of the cars they powered were MUs converted to diesel- hauled cars Also, some EMD MP-15 locomotives were converted to be switched to HEP power. Used to see them on the Oyster Bay line all the time as a kid..

Those trains were great in a blizzard, I remember those NPCU Cabs pulling electric trains during the blizzard of 96 on Long Island.

I wish I'd found this channel earlier. I rode the LIRR for years in the late 1980s / early 1990s and remember this particular unit well on the Port Jefferson branch. Old, dirty, but reliable.

Oh yeah if you look at pictures of these guys, no two units were ever the same, each had some sort of unique detail or combination.
