England 0-1 Germany (1991)

A year after his first match in charge, Graham Taylor finally suffers his first defeat as England manager in a friendly at home to Germany in September 1991. Karl-Heinz Riedle's goal just before half-time proves decisive, but England don't disgrace themselves and come close on several occasions to scoring. The match is effectively a rematch of the famous 1990 World Cup semi-final between England and West Germany, the majority of players for the now-unified Germany formerly playing for West Germany.

How badass was that German kit?? This was the only major match it was ever used for, contrary to the home equivalent. Never released commercially either. A true Adidas masterpiece.

It is extrange that Germany never wore this shirt in Italy '90. The green one was another, with tridimensional shapes similar to the Dutch shirt in Euro '88. Interesting to know that it was a later design for this match only. In 1992 they changed to another design with the German flag over the sleeves without crossing the chest (in both, white and green).

adidas were very artisitic in their design and making the shirt look attractive. I would prefer this than the home kit or italia 90 full green shirt

Riedle était un super avant -centre. Pourquoi n'a t-il pas joué plus souvent ? Effenberg était un vrai "créateur", il a subitement disparu. Pourquoi Ilgner a été remplacé par Kopke ? L'apport des anciens des ex RDA (Doll, sammer, thom) est très important. Pourquoi Woods a été remplacé par seaman ?

Riedle était le remplaçant de Rudi Voller, il a pu être titulaire durant l'euro 92 après le retrait provisoire de ce dernier mais à partir de la trentaine, il a décliné. Effenberg a été mal-aimé par l'opinion public après un bras d'honneur adressé au supporter allemand durant la WC94. Illgner, en froid, avec le sélectionneur B.Vogts a pris sa retraite internationale après le fiasco de la WC94, dès l'âge de 27 ans ! Pour la dernière question, je ne sais pas, je suis moins au fait du football anglais !

This was the beginning of the end for this England side, yes they were unlucky in this match, but the Germans completely outplayed with crisp, laser guided long range passing, this German side could play it short, and could play it long, the way the game of soccer is supposed to be played, not just this ticky, tacky bullshit one dimensional way of playing the game. The great hallmark of any team, is the way they can vary their play, like a great artist can paint, sculpt and Design, not just a watercolour artist, that's not art, just like soccer is just not about keeping it on the ground. England had a horrid period between autumn 1990 - spring 1994. Thats 4 awful years. Four of the worst years I can ever remember an English side played, losing to Norway in 1993 and America, should have been hammered at Wembley by Ireland in March 1991, should never have qualified for Euro'92, humbled by Sweden in June 1992, shall I keep going,
