England 13-27 South Africa. The Springboks beat England at Twickenham to end 2022 on a high. Where do England go from here? And how good could South Africa be at the World Cup next year?

Nice game as a springbok supporter enjoyed it. I Wish they did not do the silly red card mistakes, and have more control there. Think England is always a threat in world cup and Eddie Jones great Rugby mind. Like the introduction of the stormers players lot of talent in the Cape

Great assessment both ways but especially Boks which were forced by injuries (and maybe social media pressures) to change their gameplan and more attack out wide. Finally the springbok coaches have caught up the the SA URC teams attacking style of play last season. I have wrote their chances off for next year's world cup before this autumn tour, but now see some hope!!

what world rugby arent getting about SA rugby is , they are building a new core of players for 2023 WC , that young core will be growing towards the 2027 Rugby World Cup . South Africa is awash with world class talent . the Springboks may be the first team to win 3 WC's on the trot . the Stormers coach may well progress to coach the Springboks in future . This is the first time Springbok rugby is building consistancy since readmission . its taken 30yrs for the consistancy penny to drop . SA is an international rugby Titan . its just taken many years to realise it .

Am breathing a vindicated sigh of relief for Rassie & Jacques. They claimed 3-4 years back that they would do a complete reset of Bok rugby. There's a revolutionary scale to their work achieved with the administration, buy-in from franchises, true transformation of quality playing pool etc. But as far as coaching the Boks, they said they would start by bedding down firm Bok DNA foundations - on which all else rests. It would take time, but eventually the flash layers would be added. They endured a firestorm for trotting out 'boring anti rugby' but stayed on track with their plan it seems, & now we are seeing glimpses of the 'layers' manifesting. Truly remarkable because the history of Bok rugby has always been of administrative chaos, political upheavel & team torment. It's unheard of that we would roll seamlessly from 1 RWC cycle to the next. So things are looking very good indeed & will surely get better.

Excellent and fair commentary. It was a wonderful performance from the Bokke. To take on England at Twickenham with no established 10 and playing the last 20 with 14 men requires a special mindset. I think they prepared for this game to make a point. They shut out all the peripheral distractions and, as you rightly put it, completed a job not just for the fans but this time for themselves. The Bokke are always under a massive amount of pressure from the public back home and I suspect (and hope) they played for each other this time. A fantastic end of to this season and now it’s time to analyse a patchy 2022 before what will be a massive 2023.

South african here. This tour for the boks was all about experimentation, to see which players will fit or not. Creating depth, playing games without a recognized goal kicker. At the start of the tour, newish players were still finding their feet. I know they didn't show all their cards before the world cup. I am happy with this tour. The boks didn't fire on all cylinders, I think they hold back a little, and key players didn't play, to give everybody a chance to play

Good win for the Boks, they were super-amped for this game. However, you can't write off this England team. They looked a bit leaden-footed and the forwards didn't pitch up for battle, but if they fix their scrum ( which is not difficult considering the forwards they have ) and can get themselves psyched for every game ( THE most critical thing, they were infringing unnecessarily instead of using their aggression in the scrums and contact points) they'll be in the mix come the end of WC2023.

Bok supporter here. England have the players and ability to turn this around quickly. Better combinations and variety in the type of player are needed. There seems to an over emphasis on size and bulk and that seems to be slowing the team down. Bigger backs and forwards are hard to stop when they get going but they need time, space to build momentum. The England has shown consistently that they can be unstoppable when they get rolling, however smaller players tend to add agility and speed out of the blocks which can create havoc in defense and attack. To re-emphasize, I am talking about combinations to add spice and unpredictability to the team's over-all player style and game-plan. Eddie is one of the worlds most innovative coaches but somehow he seems to have lost the plot a little perhaps because he has an abundance of large athletic candidates?

As a bok fan I was most encouraged by the obvious team spirit & clearly playing for one another, the coaches, the skipper & the country. Also the licence clearly given to the creative boys to ‘go out and make some magic’ which they did based on a dominant forward and brick shithouse defensive effort. A good culture has evolved despite the challenges of political quotas etc always being at play. In the latter regard the Boks face challenges other teams don’t even have to think about. For England, I’d make changes at coach (too ‘corporate-speakish & arrogant) and skipper (unhappy with himself, rugby, England etc so how can he inspire?). Sadly for them & lucky for Boks, they are playing like highly paid talented individuals without a vision & cohesive direction for their game & freedom to express themselves.

As I saw it, the 'boks played much of their games against Ireland, France and England at least 1 man short, which I suspect was an excellent, rare training exercise, and it showed in their final game. Good luck to Rassie in getting more consistency in international test refereeing - someone has to make the point and hopefully WRF will improve the situation. Beating England's full 1st XV in Twickers, playing with 60% from your 2nd XV, and for 20 minutes short one man, seems to me a very good sign for the 'boks. England's try came while the 'boks expected a stoppage because of Faf's obvious intense pain, this was not a good sign that refs are deeply concerned about personal injuries; hopefully this will also get fixed. Very weak ref response to the argy-bargy when the TMO could easily ascertain the origin of the fight. Disappointing that the ref gave England repeated final warnings in the last game, yet PSDT was red carded with zero warning in a previous game. I would suggest that Rassie be appointed a full member of all relevant World Rugby controlling authorities. Watch out everyone for 'boks attacking ffrom deep like the ABs, and for the coming elusive out wide games of Arendse, Kolbe, Mapimpi, Fassi, Faf, Ribbok, Willemse and others. Did you notice Willie directing the game, esp. the drop kicks? Was a red card ever given for pile driving head first into the ground at the end?

the thing us England do have a fighting chance at RWC23. by the time it gets serious and if England top their pool, which they should, only one of Ireland,France,NZ or us ie South Africa remain to potentially face England. RWC is a contrivance due to it being a knockout and sometimes better teams fcuk up and are out. We've done quite well at RWCs partly it suits our mindset and secondly we had in 07 and 19 good draws. But I would much rather support a team which wins 80 plus % of its games for 4 years than play siht like we have after we've won the damn thing. If teams stay like they are it could turn out to be the most open WC ever.

It was never an option for an England victory, the springboks are just on a different level, only losing to Ireland and France because of inconsistent place kicking

As a South African, I saw a lot of English players with big reputaions and multiple caps, but unfortunately for England, those players looked sluggish and I can't believe that you don't have any better players in most positions. You need to start at the scrum. Itoje was ok for me, but the rest were well undercooked. The Tuilagis will struggle to make any SA URC teams and the backlike were not much better. Having said that, the Boks played about 65% of their potential with 75% full strength team, and England had no chance. Watching rugby against the Roses is one of my bucket list items, and I hope to still fulfill that ambition in the next couple of years. Thatnks for being so honest about your team, but I think England is in huge trouble.

Get rid of EJ now please England!! We Safas would love to see your team in the wc final in France but you need a fresh coach to tweak what is a good team.

Now that RSA teams play in UK leagues, in the international game the two team's players, have a lot of provincialism attitudes. This shows in individual performance.

Maybe England will get another 5 NZ players before the world cup. Come on Eddie, there are hundreds of top English clubs to build a great team. If not, go back to New Zealand. Irelands the team to beat at the World club.

England has the easiest route in the World Cup which leads me to believe that when they get to the knockout stages they won’t be battle hardened so they won’t win the World Cup as a AB fan I reckon Australia will win the World Cup I feel like things will start clicking for them at the World Cup

Don't worry england you will end in the world cup where you should be..... Playing against Australia in the quarterfinals. The best outcome there is if both teams lose and go home, but unfortunately, someone will have to go through, and only when england play australia in a knockout phase of the world cup, is the only and I mean the only time I support Australia. So with a bit of luck england's world cup will end in the quarter finals, which will be well deserved as once again they got the easy pool group, at least they can drive home 🤣🤣😂

Eddie got to big for his boots he his completely arrogant he keeps saying about the world cup but test match rugby is one game at time professional rugby is a results based business and England performances have not been good enough and get beaten at home is embarrassing it's expensive to watch test match rugby the RFU is run by amateurs I also think some of the English players are overrated they say English rugby has a big pool of players to pick from but I think we don't have enough quality players in England especially in the Three quarters some of them don't look hungry enough for success I afraid on current form England will finish at the bottom with Italy in next year's six nations 🏉🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌹😲

The only way forward for England is to drop Owen Farrell completely. He is not an inspirational and charismatic when England is on the back foot. Eddie wont drop him which means Eddie needs to go too. Simple as that. Siya had the measure of him from the coin toss in 2019, and had his number today.

Not sure how sacking Farrell would revitalise England. The Boks dominated the set piece, the loose. Englands pack were outplayed by the Boks. How does sacking Farrell solve that ? Was Englands scrum performance Farrell’s fault . Honesty I don’t think it is

Bullshit they wouldn't beat the New Zealand womens rugby team. They need to get rid of Jones first and then change the hole team except Simmons, Stewart and a couple of others

Agree. Jones was a forward-thinking coach in a previous era. Now he and Jake White have both reached their sell-by-date. BTW Jake also said the English team would be thé team to beat.😉🇿🇦

No doubt (from an avid Bok supporter) that Jones has lost the plot, for the sake of rugby fans get rid of him now!! Rassie turned the Boks around in 1 year for the 2019 wc and there are great coaches like Nick Mallet who could do the same for England for 2023 wc.
