The WHOLE team was at fault but the GK was atrocious, how many errors did she make? and every single goal that went in she pulled her arms away, how many miss kicks did she do? actually watch the game the GK was the biggest problem on the field

@@cjr2131 That's not how that works. If the opponents have a single shot at the goal that already means that the defense failed. Whole team would get a lecture from the coach. By comparison, England had 52 total shots so that means defense failed 52 times where as the goal keeper only let in 20 of the 31 shots on target. Just look at the numbers. Goal keeper could have performed better but with the team not participating there's no chance. Watching the game, it seemed like Latvia's defense gave up after the 6th goal and didn't even bother to block easy shots.

Well done to the ladies out there. You can only beat what's in front of you and they went and did that emphatically. That being said, I do think FIFA needs to look at the way the qualifying is set up when you look at results in the recent batch of games; R.O.I. 11 - 0 Georgia, Belgium 19-0 Armenia, N.I 11-0 and 9-0 in their last two games. How are the smaller footballing nations ever supposed to find their level like that? It happens across the men's game too but it seems the disparity in the women's game is much greater.

Because women's football isn't a sport. Even at the "top" level, the quality is poor. 20-0 would be the average score if the US or any of the other "leading" countries would play a men's team.

To be fair, even though the defence wasn't great, those goals were mostly decent. The Latvia keeper tried harder than most women keepers I've seen..got a hand to most, shame about that mishap but it happens. It was the closing down of play that was the problem. Some great headers. Chin up Latvia, you will go on to do great things. Well done England.

The only thing I can compare this to, from a personal experience, was in 1995, as a hockey goalie. We got drawn against Cannock in a cup game. Cannock were European champions, we were 8th tier in the national hockey leagues. We lost 17-1!!! And we scored first, a bit like San Marino against England a few years back 🤣🤣

I also had a same thing: Playing a football match as a goalie, my team mostly are high school students, and our opponent is a team with semi pro and pro players, some are even foreign players. We lose 10-0 and received two penalties, one red card. We actually put the ball in the other net once, but it was offside. I made like 6 saves or more, but it’s not enough.

A friend of mine was playing in the lowest league (serie 6) in Denmark. They "won" their first cup match because their opponent pulled out. The draw for the next round saw them facing a semi-professional team (allowed to make part-time contracts with players). It was a complete slaughter, after 25 minutes it was 10-0 and they ended up losing something like 35-0 or some ridiculous score.

I had a similar experience in a Sunday league game in the early 90s with, remarkably, the same score-line: 17-1. It was a freezing, early January, morning kick-off and only 7 of us turned up, but we decided to play anyway. Just before the end, I had a speculative attempt from just inside their half because their keeper was outside the 18. With a bit of wind assistance, it went in! Made it all worth it lol.
