Not to mention that the way the British pronounce herb is actually not the original pronunciation, which omitted the H, since it was a word borrowed from French. The British later started pronouncing the H in the 19th century after the US and Britain had split, while the US continued to use the original silent H.
@DeckDogs4Life
@DeckDogs4Life 3 жыл бұрын
@@JadestonePony a lot of American pronunciations are the same actually. We kept using the same pronunciations after we split from Britain and the British changed how they pronounced things and eventually they evolved the accent. In actuality, American English is closer to how they spoke in the Colonial days than modern British English.

The name Arkansas was initially applied to the Arkansas River. It derives from a French term, Arcansas, their plural term for their transliteration of akansa, an Algonquian term for the Quapaw people. These were a Dhegiha Siouan-speaking people who settled in Arkansas around the 13th century. akansa is likely also the root term for Kansas. The name has been pronounced and spelled in a variety of fashions. In 1881, the state legislature defined the official pronunciation of Arkansas as having the final "s" be silent (as it would be in French). A dispute had arisen between the state's two senators over the pronunciation issue. One favored pronunciation as /ˈɑːrkənsɔː/ AR-kən-saw while the other favored /ɑːrˈkænzəs/ ar-KAN-zəs. In 2007, the state legislature passed a non-binding resolution declaring that the possessive form of the state's name is Arkansas's, which has been followed increasingly by the state government.

Jon, I get that in England you usually fly into the airport nearest your destination and therefore don’t need other gates, but in non island nations a large portion of the passengers getting off the plane are going to have a connection flight to catch. @Conn Benn it takes a lot less skill and coordination to hold a steering wheel in place than to shift gears
@ultimakewl
@ultimakewl 4 жыл бұрын
@Conn Benn youll be using both hands on the wheel whenever you need control. the only time one hand will be off the wheel will be to shift gears, which you will only be doing when going straight. it takes no effort skill, or coordination to hold the steering wheel still so there is no difference between using your dominant or non-dominant hand. dominant eye? what the hell are you talking about? use BOTH eyes for the love of god. oh the romans did it? my mistake! i concede completely. they also had communal toilets and were ruled by a guy that tried to go to war with the ocean. old =/= right

This always makes me so happy- I found Fading Hearts on Valentine's Day 2015, and that May, I found your playthrough of it- that was all it took to fall deeply in love with the channel. Every time we have the specials and explore dating sims, it's like falling in love with the channel all over again. Never change, Jon

Joseph Michels wrong. It is oily and sad. If you don’t try to spread butter as soon as you pull it out of the fridge (and even then if you give it like 20 seconds on hot toast) it spreads just fine. The taste is a million times better than margarine.

@@samreid6010 - I don't understand why people keep butter in the fridge. That's what a butter dish is for, you leave it on the counter. Then your butter is perfectly spreadable.

@@TheMrVengeance because butter goes rancid. It lasts longer at room temperature if you keep it covered but still gets an off taste after about a week. The convenience isn’t worth the funny taste of slightly off butter

Fun fact Jon, a modern British accent is actually further from the accent at the inception of the English language than some modern day American accents- most linguists believe that the closest accent to what was spoken around 400-500 years ago is actually the appalachian accent (somewhat close to West Virginian but a bit more "insulated" than that), because of the lack of other accents influencing it (some towns have remained fairly constant for a very, very long time there). Meanwhile, most of areas of Britain had such large influxes of immigrants from other areas of the British empire that the accents slowly changed over time. Truly, fascinating!
