Goal difference still matters. Very important when determining the 4 third placed teams to progress. Two - three more goals and Italy would already be through to the last 16. Spain against Croatia weren't really tested in defense due to the lack of offensive prowess of the Croats. Worse, every time the Croats got close to Spain's goal there was a lingering feel that a slip up was underway to concede a goal. I very much fear that Spain's win against croatia was a mirage.. a team the likes of France, Germany or Portugal will have a field day against this Spain side. Not to lessen the merit it has to start with a resounding victory against a nation like Croatia but anyone with a clinical eye that saw the game knows what I'm talking about. Spain is a Top 6 nation at best, not Top 4.

As we have a problem at left-back, the answer is to play a back three, with a box of four centrally, and you can still have three forwards. It's a five and five. Five offensive players and five defensive. 3-2-2-3. Here's how it looks: Pickford, Walker, Stones, Guehi, Rice, Mainoo, Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Kane, Saka. That five in attack have over 140 goals between them this season. That team can win the euros. Not sure we have a manager brave enough to play it.
