UEFA has said only two host nations would be able to automatically qualify out of 5. England has taken one for the team and said we’ll reject it, as we have more chance of naturally qualifying, so that Wales, Scotland, NI and RoI have a greater chance. Surely this should be praised?

as a scotsman i give all credit to england and tbf i actually like england anyway just the commentators and media down there and am sure the english agree they have some team but the media constantly pressure the players non stop if they stopped that the english team probs plays alot more freely and goes further .. scotland have had a great run with qualification aswell and id like to see wales and northern ireland get better too better all of us strong ... i do think england can win the euros as long as there media dont murder them as usual coz the players in that england team are unreal and bellingham will make diff this time imo ..

As soon as Scott Mctominay stops bagging goals as he does rn we look a much worse side in reality as we don’t have much goal threat tbh. Very well coached defensively though.

Its now fully regenerated and has a lot of wealth pumped into it, and home of Manchester City who are actually in Manchester not one of the suburbs.

I don't see this as strange for a few reasons: 1) England are not the only hosts. As only 2 teams would be allowed automatic qualification, it would be a bit unfair on the other 4 hosts to just claim one of the spots for ourselves. 2) England should have no trouble qualifying, which means that actually this allows the free spaces to some of the other home nations that might struggle a bit more. If England took that spot, that would reduce the number of free spots to the other nations. 3) With other European nations playing Euros qualifiers and South American nations playing World Cup qualifying, England will struggle to find top class opponents to play in friendlies, especially in a more competitive environment. This will keep them reasonably match fit for the tournament

No automatic spots. It's the best two finishers out of 5 (who did not qualify). So If England Scotland & Ireland qualify then NI & Wales who are hosting games will also have an entry.

It's not to prove anything. The reality is that the England squad would be strengthened by having to compete in the qualifiers, thereby standing a much better chance of winning the tournament itself.

The real reason is not really explained in here. Usually a competition is hosted in 1 or sometimes 2 countries (like Japan + SK) but this time there are 5 teams that are listed as hosts (England, Wales, Scottland, Ireland + ROI as they technically also have their own squad). But the organizers thought that giving 5 teams automatic qualification would be too excessive for the tournaent, so there are only 2 who get in that way. As England has by far better teams than Wales and Northern Ireland they agreed to let weaker squads take the automatic spots as that could let most of them play the tournament at the end. This is also so most of the host nation team are able to participate at the tournament at the end.

You're wrong in multiple ways. England didnt reject anything, UEFA decided that they couldnt have 5 teams automatically qualifying and so all of the hosts have to go through qualification. If england had hosted the tournament by themselves then they would have auto qualified and theres no way they would have rejected it - we'd have just arranged a bunch of friendlies.

Makes sense, gives the manager a chance to see his team playing together for a few matches before deciding which players to take to the tournament. Gives the players a chance to play together so each others styles is fresh in memory. They get to play against low level teams that never qualify, whoop them and boost morale.

I’m from England, think we should give the automatic qualification to Northern Ireland (our weakest team) and the Republic of Ireland (our co-hosts). The other U.K. countries should qualify for it.
