I always come back to boxing. You get knocked down (concussed), you have ten seconds to show you have your faculties.. If you can't, you lose and you don't fight again for MONTHS. In rugby, it's now 11 days and you're good to go! Paul McCrory should be in court for the horrific impact his 'research' has had on concussion decisions worldwide.

Sports people (except for the few at the very top) do not get paid enough for the risks they take. Lots of people do not get paid enough for the risk they take. But perhaps instead of just/only straight paying them more, we need to provide better security. eg healthcare and secure employment once they are past their prime etc. As for medical ethics, the problem will always exist as long as people are going into the field for money rather than because they genuinely want to help others. There are so many good doctors out there, but a few rotten apples can really destroy the hard work of the many.

People of the general population have known for decades of the potential for brain injury in contact sports. No one, let alone the sporting bodies themselves, needed to be told by any medical experts of the risks. I’m not surprised that there has been a cover up. There has been an over representation of retired rugby and rugby league players in the statistics of early onset dementia for a long time.

Who is paying the scientists, that is the question? Tobacco companies, environmental groups, big pharma, sports clubs and national sports teams. If scientists come up with the wrong conclusion they may not get their payday and will probably be replaced by someone that reaches the right conclusion.
