We continue visiting fun and exciting locations. This time we made it to Lincoln, UK and we were pleasantly surprised by the city. I now consider Lincoln to be one of England's Best Kept Secrets. The City centre had a great vibe...
We actually spent two weekends in Lincoln because we enjoyed to vibe in the city so much.
Lincolnshire (abbreviated Lincs.) is a county in the East Midlands of England, with a long coastline on the North Sea to the east. It borders Norfolk to the south-east, Cambridgeshire to the south, Rutland to the south-west, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire to the west, South Yorkshire to the north-west, and the East Riding of Yorkshire to the north.

Lincoln is my home town! Seeing this reaction video really makes me realise how much i take the City and cathedral for granted. You're right on how quiet it is. I always enjoy the peace and tranquility of Lincoln when i do go back, as i live near London these days. Great video, keep up the good work and well done for getting to the top of steep hill!

My home town too and the video opens right where a chunk of my family history is based back in the 1850's. I have only watched a few seconds but I can almost guarantee there will be dozens of buildings my family lived in or ran their businesses from right back from the 1850's to the present day.

So glad you enjoyed Lincoln! I studied here from 2013 to 2016, volunteered at the cathedral, and even slept just outside the cathedral for charity (very cold, but great fun!) Other things you can check out if you return are obviously the rest of the cathedral (you can take tours inside the roof and go outside onto the roof of the tallest of the towers) as well as the mediavel and wren libraries inside (the wren library designed by Sir Christopher Wren), the castle with the magna carta (one of only four remaining copies and the only one still at home in the city it was originally sent to) and it's prison, the Ellis mill windmill, and the museum of lincolnshire life which tells the story of Lincolnshire people and how Lincoln invented the tank! Also if you fancy it next time, try a traditional Lincolnshire ploughmans lunch!

I absolutely love Lincoln, old yet timeless and beauty wherever you look, its been a few years since I was there, I live just outside of Doncaster and between Doncaster and Lincoln there are and were many long airfields especially for aircraft coming back from Germany, these airfields were here because its mostly flat and wide open, it was the perfect place for wounded aircraft to come back to when missing critical parts such as rudders and undercarriage, they could land with relative safety, I know that Doncaster alone had at least 6 airfields where stricken craft could land as best they could, thankfully this isn't something that is particularly needed now. You always make such wonderful videos and it's so good to see you all together as a family, it shows that children are welcome and that you can see places of beauty and interest with children, your children are always so well behaved too, take care :)

Indeed, Lincoln is one of the hidden gems of England. Whenever I visit the UK, and whilst studying there many years ago, I learned that many smaller cathedral cities had more to offer visitors over less time than bigger, more popular centres, better known to tourists. I think you and your children would enjoy Wells, England's smallest city. Next, there's Ely (these two both boast schools founded over 1100 yrs ago). Hereford and Chester, Truro and Bangor (with a cathedral founded in the 6th century), and of course Winchester (England's capital until the 11th century) and Salisbury (the inspiration for Ken Follett's historical novels), each offer unique attraction. Enjoy them, and great cities further north, such as Sterling, Perth, Inverness, and if you can spare the travel time, the unique culture and atmosphere of Lerwick. You are enabling life-long memories for your children, for which thanks and blessings.

You have such a lovely tight knit family and I love how you give thanks before your meals. I was very fortunate about 15 years ago to have the chance to sing in Lincoln Cathedral. When the choir boys and girls are on their school holiday breaks most cathedrals invite in ‘guest choirs’ to sing during their weekend services. I was a member of one of those choirs. We sang at the Saturday evensong, Sunday Mattins, Sunday Holy Communion and Sunday Evensong. That was a lot of singing and in between the services we walked up and down Steep Hill. I don’t think I’ve ever felt as tired as I did at the end of that weekend. Totally worth it though. Wonderful memories! We sang at a lot of other Cathedrals too. My favourite was Worcester. They were extra friendly and welcoming.

Hi - I just watched you and your family's tour of Lincoln and so glad you managed to see inside the amazing cathedral. Just wanted to let you know that the "Harlequin" - a black and white Tudor style building about halfway down Steep Hill - was recently an antique bookshop, but prior to that it was a public house (bar) and my great uncle Fred Reynolds was the last landlord there. I am now 70yo and living in Perth, Western Australia, but my brother still lives in a village just out of Lincoln. Should you decide to visit Lincoln again, and I recommend that you do, please spend more time in the uphill area and visit Browns Pie Shop on Steep Hill and many of the shops etc in Bailgate. It's wonderful that your family are able to enjoy these experiences. Keep it up and enjoy. Warm regards to you and yours, David 🙂

So many visitors to England just visit London - and maybe some other main hotpots like Bath, York, Stratford-upon-Avon. But a lot of the old provincial cathedral cities which are more off of the main tourist route are also very much worth seeing. Lincoln, for sure; but we could also mention Truro, Exeter, Winchester, Salisbury, Worcester, Canterbury...the list goes on...

That’s not a canal running through the city centre, it’s the River Witham. When I was a young and foolish teenager, I once ran up Steep Hill. Never again! If you’re up the hill at the Minster, you should also visit the Castle opposite, which is fantastic. The prison chapel is so spooky. And the best view of the Cathedral is from the Observation Tower of the Castle.

First time I’ve come across one of your videos- I’m actually from Lincoln and there are laws that mean buildings can only be built a certain height so the cathedral is visible from all parts of the city!!

I love Lincoln with its castle just across the square from the cathedral. I went with my family for a few days a few years ago and didnt even go near the city centre, there was just so much to see. They certainly weren't wrong when they named the street Steep Hill.

As kids, when we were on the way to the coast from Nottinghamshire dad would drop us off and we'd race the car up the hill to the top. They always got stuck in traffic so we'd often win.

Wow…this really is Britain’a best kept secret because I’ve been living here all my life and had no idea Lincoln was so interesting! 😍 I love that you and your family are getting to explore some really great places here. I have lived in London most of my life (except for 3 years spent in the midlands) so I enjoy seeing life outside of the city. I absolutely love your filming style btw. These videos are really fun to watch and your commentary is great too. I learn so much about the place you’ve travelled to from these videos 😄

The shop next to that sorbet place, Is a electrical shop, much more interesting. Its Been there since the 50s and they sell parts from aircraft like vulcan and Lancaster bombers. Which you can see in the window. Where the shopping center is, was once a cinema. The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix once played there

I live 15 mins south of Lincoln! I’m glad you finally managed to get the kids up the hill to the castle. I hope you get to walk the battlements at some time. The views are fantastic. The Victorian pirison is an interactive museum so good for kids. The castle also houses a copy of the Magna Carta. We love living near Lincoln. It isn’t as full of things to do as York but a much nicer vibe than Nottingham and you can walk everywhere. Steep Hill is called Steep Hill for a reason but it’s 100% worth the climb and the market square, castle, cathedral and Bailgate area are all the best parts of the city. I much prefer exploring up there than down at the bottom, where you mostly were. There’s old Roman walls and archways to see and more unique, independent shops up that part of town. If you walk through the castle to the other side and cross the road, you’ll find a converted hospital called The Lawns. In there is a lovely cafe owned by the coffee company Stokes, which does fantastic brunches, and a great tapas restaurant, called Olé Olé. When you’re on The Straight (the bit that starts to incline, just before steep hill), turn right, just near Pizza Express and follow signs to The Collection Museum. It’s a free interactive museum about the history of Lincoln, especially about Vikings and Romans. If you’re over in Lincolnshire again, Tattershall Castle is a nice place to visit. It’s a National Trust property and it’s an unusual castle as it’s made of red brick, despite being mainly Tudor. Another good place to visit at Christmas is Doddington Hall (just a couple of minutes West of Lincoln, near the A46). This Elizabethan Manor house hosts an amazing set up where they dress the whole house for Christmas with every room a different theme. One year we went and it was different fairy tales, with a huge beanstalk up the main staircase, and another year, they’d set up Narnia! It is so well done and worth a visit. Also has a farm shop, two cafes, a Christmas bauble barn and gardens. Belton House is a national trust property just outside grantham. It has the big house you’d expect but it also has a huge outdoor play area in the woods that children love, including den making, a mini train, loads of climbing equipment etc.
