Hi Colin and Shaun , I watched your vlog at 1.35 this morning ,, then again at 8.30 this morning however learning of your sudden and upsetting loss of Lovely Dillon It really broke my heart , he was always wagging his tail and always looked soooooo happy . I shall miss him dearly . Being a crazy animal lover , I have had 4 dogs and three cats over the many years on this planet , each one a blessing in many ways . The last was a cat named ?Charlie , I trained him just like a dog ! He travelled with us in our caravan many thousands of kilometres around Australia , and during my course of chemo and radiation therapy, when I returned to the caravan because we had to travel a long way to get treatment, I would be absolutely worn out he would lie on my belly where I had the radiation, right on the spot , he knew his daddy was ill I did that for 8 weeks and each time Charlie would be my therapy friend . Oh boy when we had to put him to sleep , I was so gutted . That was 2013 ! We have not got another pet , but that cat was so special , he would sit , stay , come , shake paw knew the word NO , one great thing .colin and Shaun , is that Dillon was a huge part of your lives , like me you will never forget him , and you have great and wonderful memories of him . Each dog and cat remains well and truly in my mind , and each day I am thankful,for such great and faithful furry friends and sharing my life with them , I dream of them too . Your photography, story telling and positive attitudes out shine everyone else. I may not be able to do a narrowboat cruise (we don’t have them in the USA), but I can live vicariously through your vlogs. Thank you for transporting me back to Great Britain. I went to university in London for six months in 1983. I was able to see a lot of GB and Ireland during my time there. I loved the lifestyle and beauty through out the land. My wife and I have just heard the devastating news. It really hit home because we lost our latest English Springer on Boxing Day morning. Chips was the latest in a line of English and Welsh Springers who have enriched our lives as owners and breeders for over forty years. I can tell you that even after forty years it still doesn’t get any easier. It is abundantly clear how much love you had for him, and he for you both. It will be very hard, but you will get over it with time. We hope another Springer will come along for you in time, so that you have another friend and companion to share the enormous love you both so clearly show. Deepest condolences to you both.

As many have already expressed, it will take time (lots of time) to work through this loss. You will see places that will remind you of Dillon, you will smell him for a while on the boat, you may hear him and be startled from your sleep. Time does heal but I have seen many people take the 1st step by honoring the spirit of their dog by keeping something tangible in the home so he will continue to join you on your journey (in spirit). I wish we had canals over here in the USA. They seem so peaceful and serene. The scenery is spectacular. And I think I saw several places, along there, that would be perfect for a ferry and since the canals are so narrow, the punt pulling won't take much time and you can get back on your way with none the wiser.

So sorry to hear of your loss of Dillion, pets leave such a huge hole in you heart when they go. I lost my 24 year old cat last fall and he was my best friend, got me through some really bad times. Remember all the good times, tell the old stories, share the memories. God bless

When I lost my first puppie, I did a sculpture. I cried all the while. Several years later I lost my youngest daughter and in 3 years of intensive therapy I found out that creation of memorial helps the brain to accept the loss. A dozen years later I lost my husband and I drew a picture to go on his stone with him and my daughter walking away. Every time they sent it back for final approval I had to correct the sketch. Each time the experience was different...not particularly easier but different. I am sure you two will work your way thru this with time and grace. My heart goes out to you. You do you in good time for you. But remember..you are loved. Love to you both ***XOXOX
