This was one of the very best test matches - indeed benaud said it was one of the best he'd ever seen. Great batting by the windies then a superb comeback by knott and greig especially. In the end a whirlwind unorthodox 50 in the 2nd innings by collis king proved to be the difference, england losing by about 50 runs. The best game of the series by far.

Alan Knott dropping a regulation catch wasn't something you saw every day!

Alan Knott dropping a catch!!! Unbelievable.

I think the knowledge that he was near to passing Godfrey Evans's dismissals record was preying on Knott's mind during the 3rd, 4th and 5th tests in this series. He missed Greenidge on 26 in the 3rd test which would have made the West Indies 41 for 5 and also missed Fredericks in the 5th test which would have made the West Indies 6 for 2. This was easily his worst series for missed chances.

no advertisements emblazoned across shirts and sweaters, no advertisements actually on the playing field, no helmets. A game when cricket represented a poetic summer idyll instead of players being a walking advertisement for a company. Greed has devoured the integrity of the game even when representing your country. A spectacle cheapened by monetary greed.

Interesting how Willey's stance changed over the years. Two-eyed here, then side-on in 1980, and then two-eyed again the next season.

I saw a video of his 100 against the WI in 1980 the other day and wondered why he was using the one eyed side on stance when he was famous for the two eyed open stance.
