I remember my Dad listening to TMS out in the garden to the morning's play and the carnage Lewis was potentially creating. He was about 4 years younger then than I am now. My Dad is very poorly now, so maybe I am watching these old cricket videos to connect with him from far, far happier times. I am sure that if I knew someone nowadays like the much younger version of my Dad, they would be a great friend. But my Dad will always be my best friend.

Chris lewis was a very good all-rounder. He didn't do justice with his talent. His front foot drives are treat to watch.

Richards' last great stand for Windies. Aged 39, not the batsman he used to be with slower reflexes I am sure. Windies 23 for 3 and out he walks into a pressure situation, turns back the clock and achieves his last moment of glory in the test arena against who else but England. When he gave the "straight salute to the dressing room" on reaching his 50, he looked like he was telling them I am doing what you expected. It was not the 232 at Trent Bridge or the 291 at the Oval in 1976 nor the 182 not out at Kensington in 1981, nor the fastest test century at the Old Rec in 1986 all against England to name a few. It was a final match winning contribution from an ageing superstar who decided to do it one last time. And poor Carl Hooper, he contributed so much and all he got was honourable mention. All because of the presence of Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards.

I think Viv Richards problem was less that of slowing reflexes as he got older and more problems with his eyesight. His best years were between 1976 and 1983 where he averaged a remarkable 66.51 with the bat in test cricket. In 1984 he suffered from pterygium and had eye surgery which affected his eyesight. At test level afterwards, though he continued to have great days, they became much fewer in number.

I was at this day's play - first time I had seen a Test at Edgbaston. Bought the ticket a week or so earlier and rocked up on the day expecting a v short day's play given where England were at the start. Terrific entertainment in the end - final time Viv got 50 in a Test I too I think......remember him winning it with a 6 off Illingworth who was not a Test std bowler, though perfectly good at lower levels

Me too in the Hollies Stand, I was aged 11 and relieved to see a lot of play considering the match situation. Watching the great Sir Viv was great too.

A moment of madness from Clayton Lambert started the first innings slide in the final test. Think he was on 39 when he had a wild swipe against Tufnell. I spoke to him in Anguilla about it and he said that although he had those runs he was never settled at the crease.
