That was awesome. I’ve also used coturnix quial for this. They do not fly well. My pup was able to flush , chase catch and retrieve. I’ve also incorporated the starter pistol while the chase was on. Thanks got the vid!

We are re-introducing my 1 year old GSP to birds this spring/summer. This season was rough for him following our 4 year old GSP. He seemed to only want to sub hunt under her and then at times he would get birdy and find and retrieve pheasant and quail feathers and wings he found.

Good luck! Let us know if we can help.

Tip from pigeon man. If the flight feathers on each wing do not match. They have more trouble flying. Like cut all the secondaries on one wing only. They also have more trouble with secondaries missing than the power/primaries😊

Appreciate the video with a flushing dog - it's hard to find anything this well done. Am currently working with a 14-month-old Springer Spaniel --> have found this book - "Hup!: Training Flushing Spaniels the American Way", by James Spencer - to be very helpful. Thanks, again, for the instruction!

Its so interesting to see how differently you work spaniels in the US than over here in the UK. We wouldnt use the line, would make sure the spaniel hunts nose down before he's on live game, and has a quartering pattern, also chasing and pegging a bird is a huuuuge no. Is there a particular reason why you dont teach the dog to stop to flush? thanks
@StandingStoneKennels11 ай бұрын
He is just a young puppy that we are introducing to flushing! Once he has a better understanding of his purpose and job and hunted a season chasing at the flush we can work towards steadying him up!

New to bird hunting and bird dogs. These videos have been so helpful in raising our GSP. My question on this: do birds like quail, chukar, and pheasant all land in such close distance? If we wanted to replicate this while introducing other birds.
@StandingStoneKennels10 ай бұрын
So glad our videos have been so helpful! Usually pen raised birds like quail and chukar will fly a shorter distance and then set down. Pheasants are typically hardier birds and will fly further. But it all depends on the quality of the pen raised birds and how strong and flight conditioned they are.

My wife has given me the greenlight to get a hunting dog again. I hunt mostly huns, sage grouse, and pheasants. Is a cocker the right dog for me?
@StandingStoneKennels10 күн бұрын
That's awesome that you got the greenlight! A cocker would work for you! We offer a multiple training services that would help you get your puppy ready for hunting!

If I don't have access to live birds what would be a good alternative?
@StandingStoneKennels11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, there is no substitute to teach flushing other than with live birds. Birds make a bird dog!
