That's the way the native speakers talk to each other. A basic communication ability for each child before going to school to learn how to read and write. On the contrary, our educational system failed us by forcing us to remember vocabulary and grammar even though our teachers had well known that we didn't even know how to talk. Very appreciated for presenting this video to us. Thanks a lot!!!

I REALLY appreciate your channel, Rachel. I grew up in Brazil and I've been living in the US for 10 years now. I have done a lot speech reduction work over the years, mainly because I'm an actor. I've worked a lot with all the materials I've come across by David Alan Stern, Paul Meier and Edith Skinner as well as with private speech coaches but "the cherry on the top of the cake" has been missing. I can confidently say that you're helping me to achieve that. THANK YOU. One thing I don't know if I'd been told before, but it really hit home in your videos, is the going up at the end of questions that can be answered with a "yes or no", which follows the same pattern as in Brazilian Portuguese but I wasn't ware of that. I noticed that in this video, when your friend asks "how long you're gonna be gone for?" he goes up, even though it can not be answered with yes or no. It sounds to me like he knew the answer but he needed to be reminded once more. Is that why he went up at the end of this question? Again THANKS A LOT. All the best to you. =)
