Thank you for your comment. This stitch cannot be worked in the round. But there is a technique of "false knitting in the round" that you could use. I plan to make a video on this method next week.

Ok, so I think I've got this down now: cast on multiples of three, plus two stitches, one at each end. It looks like we are slipping the first stitch as if to knit, then proceed with the row as described here, and the last stitch is a K1. Turn work over, and start again.

Yes, every row begins with slip one and ends with knit 1. I wish you successful knitting.

I tend to be a slightly tighter knitter, and the texture is not popping out quite as well. Do I need to go UP one needle size? I think I'm using a 7 right now, maybe an 8 or 9?

also, is that first stitch slip as if to purl? I knit English style, so am I slipping that first st as if to purl, or knit?

I think it would be right if you slip the first stitch as if to purl with thread in front and knit the last one through the back.
