Damned phrasal verbs! So confusing for non natives.Thank you so much Anna for staigthening them out together so well for us. Let see if I got them right now and in that context of driving Pull out: emerge /draw/ extract / leave / move out. = émerger, surgir, déboiter Pull off: leave the road to stop shortly / stop at / stop off = sortir, s'arrêter Pull over: stop on the side of the road / move to the side of the road / Park / stop off / pause = se garer, se ranger Pull in (into): move to a place where you can stop (service station, car park, driveway, marina etc.) = 'sortir à' pour une pause, un arrêt Pull up: Slow down and stop on the road (and not necessarily on the side) like at the traffic lights for example = ralentir (et s'arrêter) Pull alongside: move directly beside something/someone (in motion or not) = se placer à hauteur de / parallèlement à. Thank you so much Anna for the useful, excellent lesson, explanation and illustration in context. I'm only still a bit confused between 'pull off' and 'pull in' which seem rather similar to me. Probably, 'pull off' emphasizes the act of leaving the road and 'pull in' the reason you're leaving it and the destination. A rather subtle nuance. T.y.! Take care on the road and watch out for autos my lovely! Merci beaucoup, 🙏👌👏👏 Have a sweet Sunday, bisous bisous 😘❤🌹

They are similar but pull in relates to the place you are going TO - I pull into a garage, whereas pull off relates more to the road you are leaving - I pulled off the main road to find a garage.

@@EnglishLikeANative I am glad to find here the answer to my same interrogation and basically that is exactly what I had figured out! 'pull off' emphasizes the act of leaving the road and 'pull in' the reason you're leaving it and the destination. A rather subtle nuance. T.y.!

As usual, good job. I hope you get your car being reparired soon. If you need a witness , I don't mind testifying you were in the properly line. In addition to my uninterested help, in Spain we don't trust enough with the other insurance policy, so if you are in Spain you should call the police even even if the other accept their guiltiness or culpability. See you soon.

So what's the difference between pull over and pull off? In both cases you exit the traffic
@EnglishLikeANative
@EnglishLikeANative 10 ай бұрын
Pull over - stop at the side of the road. Pull off - turn off the road onto another road The police car pulled me over on the M25. I pulled off the M25 onto the M1.
