English Pronunciation | The Letter P | Glottal P and PH Sounds

👉 In this English Pronunciation lesson I will teach you how to pronounce the letter P perfectly and also what sound the letters PH, PT and PS normally make when spoken in English. We will also learn a little about the Glottal P in English. Finally we will also practice the letter P with some really fun Practice Sentences which will help you to speak English quickly, fluently and easily!
👉 After that we will learn about the SILENT P in English, in advanced words like Pterodactyl or Psychology.
👉 At the end we will look at some SUPER FUN 'P' Tongue Twisters and do a short English TEST!
👉 The Letter P is a plosive sound and is unvoiced which means the sound is made by pushing air out of the mouth.
👉 This lesson has CHAPTERS so you can SKIP to the part you need to learn most.
🤩👉 *Glottal P is made when we close the glottis (back of the throat) to stop a sound being made (in this case a P). Many languages use Glottal Stops even more than English does (Arabic for example). If you see a word that ends in P and the next work also begins with consonant that has a similar mouth position, this often means in English that we will use a glottal P. For example in the sentence, "You can't stop me" the 'p' in stop would be a glottal P because the m in "me" has a similar mouth position.

The P sound, M sound and B sound are Bilabial sounds involve the upper and lower lips. In the production of a bilabial sound, the lips come into contact with each other to form an effective constriction. In English, /p,b,m/ are bilabial sounds.

Remember though that “went” here means this is in the past so usually we would say this sentence in the afternoon or evening (because we “went” to the market this morning)

"pt" is read as /pt/ at the end of some words and as /t/ in others, example words,prompt:/prämt/2)slept:/slept/ is there a general rule for this?

Technically in British English we should always pronounce the p and the t here…so slept=slɛpt, prompt=prɒmpt and leapt=lɛpt. The reason you may be hearing this differently is because many native speakers like to use the glottal p here or they just skip the p entirely in many accents. So leapt can sound like lɛʔt.
