Unfortunately at some point, Dingo stopped paying for translations on their Killing Voice videos, although one of the only particularly notable things they say before/after a song here is before "Oh Boy", when Joy mentions that it was the song that made RV known for their excellent B-sides/non-title tracks. And as someone else mentioned in the comments, their B-sides are sprinkled throughout this Killing Voice. Which is partially why this was, at the time of its posting, the longest Killing Voice video. Not sure if that's been eclipsed since! As someone else has mentioned, "Happiness" was their debut song in August 2014, when they debuted with four members, although Yeri can be spotted in the music video for it briefly. Yeri was originally supposed to debut in another group with other trainees around the same age, but various circumstances internally resulted in her being added to RV several months later with their first mini album. I mention the age thing because the gap between the oldest (Irene) and the youngest (Yeri) is 8 years, which is pretty uncommon in K-pop. Joy, the second youngest, is 3 years older than Yeri. 'Zimzalabim' is an equivalent to 'abracadabra" in some Germanic and Slavic languages, I think? And yes, the MV for the song is a bit wacky. It's rather an abrasive song for many, because that chorus can be very jarring for some, but as they mention prior to singing the song, it is something they love at concerts and also a fan favorite at concerts because it's just stupid fun. "Psycho" is one of the most played/streamed songs released under SM Entertainment ever (if not THE most streamed, depending on the stats that you look at). Wendy's family moved to Canada as a child (EDIT: apparently this is a bit wrong - see @riffgroove’s reply to this below!) and she lived back and forth a bit between there and Minnesota as a teen. Her original given name as such is not Wendy, but it was her English name while living in North America. She started auditioning for Korean agencies while in high school, although ultimately she ended up joining SM Entertainment when she accompanied her friend to an SM audition. So she speaks English fluently, although you notice on occasion when it's more obvious that it's her second language (plus living again in a country for so long where English is no longer the primary language hurts!). You mentioned "Automatic" having a bit of an R&B vibe, and that's definitely something prevalent throughout their discography. I feel like people probably mentioned in the comments of your other RV reactions, and you may have come across it during any reading about RV, but RV does have their "Red" and "Velvet" styles, with R&B falling usually in the latter. They don't strictly adhere to this, as you hear and see blends of these two styles in their music and visuals, but it was a stronger part of their marketing and group concept earlier in their careers. This Killing Voice is actually loosely divided into those two halves, with the Red being the former and Velvet starting with "Peek-a-boo" (Yeri mentions changing the mood of the Killing Voice right before getting into the song). No real connection between "Queendom" and "Kingdom Come"! They were released on different albums and their lyrics don't really have any connection, the latter being more of an outright love song. If the vocal aspects do intrigue you, SM Entertainment began releasing behind the scenes footage of their artists recording for the title tracks (I think starting in 2020 or 2021 onwards). Whether it's for reaction content or just in your personal time, it can be interesting to see the process. There's at least several for RV (both for group title tracks and their solos).

One thing you mentioned wasn't entirely correct... Wendy was about 12 when her older sister went to study in Canada. When she came back to visit after just one year in Canada, impressionable young Wendy became convinced that if she went to Canada, she could be as happy as her big sister was. She begged her parents, and they sent her to a really expensive boarding school in Brockville before going to Toronto when she got a bit older. Her family ended up moving to Canada at a later date.

@@possiblyicyShe talked about it at length on a Variety show. Her older sister was not an entirely happy child. When she returned from a year of study in Canada, 13 year old Seung-Wan ( Wendy's Korean name ) was amazed at how much she had changed. She said she seemed so much more worldy, relaxed, and most of all, just how much happier she seemed. Wendy said she said to herself "If I go to Canada, can I be that happy as well?" She begged her parents, and they said if she studied English really hard, they would send her as well. It's no secret that Wendy's family is really wealthy. Someone said her dad was a diplomat, but that's never been confirmed. She went to some really prestigious schools in Canada and Minnestota. She could have gotten into an Ivy league college, her grades were so good. But she decided being a singer was more important to her, so she started applying to Korean agencies while she was still living in Canada. Smart girl to realize that her opportunities were probably way better there than here.

what i love about red velvet songs is that all 5 of them sing the chorus together (most of the time). their voices blend so beautifully together and it gives every member the opportunity to actually sing on the track while harmonising. you often see visual members or dancers of the groups barely given the chance to open their mouths during killing voice. so its nice to see that irene and yeri are able to sing the chorus as base despite having the least solo lines most of the time. seeing their passion and all of the details they put into each song and their big discography over the past 10 years truly warms my heart. can't wait for more red velvet reactions!🙌 (if youre a fan of wendy's vocals i can recommend her 1st solo mini album 'like water')

Nice reaction. Good questions too. As far as names, they all have a Korean name but a few use a "stage" name. Wendy (Shon Seung-wan), Irene (Bae Joo-hyun), Joy (Park Soo-young), Seulgi (Kang Seul-gi) and Yeri (Kim Ye-rim). Wendy lived and studied for several years in Canada and US, hence the fluency and accent. She went by Wendy at school, a name her father selected for her and she continued using it when she moved back to Korea, and eventually debut with Red Velvet. Enjoy your continued dive into Red Velvet. I fell down the RV rabbit hole just a few years ago and have never looked back.

@@PinkGrammarGirl About their debut, Happiness is their first single and debut practically, so they kept it as their greeting. At that time Yeri was too young to debut so she joined later in Ice Cream Cake, so that Irene, the leader (who raised and fed Yeri lol), has always said Ice Cream Cake is their debut (which makes them the true Red Velvet 🥺).

I loved your reaction, and hope you’re feeling better! If you’d like some more recommendations, I’d check out Wildside, which is one of their Japanese songs, and Future. Future is an ost, but it’s one of my all time favorite Red Velvet songs. Wendy and Jin also just did a duet together on Jin’s album that just came out called Heart on the Window that’s my current obsession. Wendy, Seulgi, and Joy have all had solo albums, and Irene’s is coming out next week! Seulgi and Irene also came out with a sub group album, that had some amazing songs as well. There’s definitely a bunch of content for you to check out if you choose to!

Oh, seeing the lyrics being translated as is in the Dingo video, I'd definitely love to know what you think. Seeing the lyrics, I've noticed how Korean has a different sentence structure, especially when the random English words are added in. How do you, as an English teacher, would say this can cause inaccuracies in translating it in English? Also, in general, how does it phonetically SOUND different to you if you have gotten more used to korean as a language? Also, since you revealed in this video that you used to practice singing, have you noticed any difference between k-pop and english singers? Most do follow the same pop techniques but more on stuff like how they stop and connect syllables and also their mouth placement? Like how AA open vowel gives a very opened mouth, thus producing more sound and how that differs in korean and all. I'm loving a fresh new perspective, especially when you look at the lyrics so I'd love to know, especially seeing how the korean language is still relatively new to you, what things have you noticed, not even just the questions I've asked. Happy Reveluv journey and I'm glad to join the ride😊

Well, I will say I feel extremely inadequate when trying to use my English skills transposed over Korean ones, which are, admittedly, pretty rough. I could never learn Korean at this age! I struggle so hard. I don't hear words but sounds, and they sound so similar to my ears. Boohoo. I do find the syntax completely flipped, and that really threw me for a loop at the start (still does). I don't know much about music to speak to the sounds they speak, but I will say this: I love their commitment to sounding/singing the word the way it is supposed to be. Example: The first time I heard Jimin sing "worry" in PTD, I immediately noticed he pronounced it the way you speak it: wor-ee. I loved it! Why? Because every Westerner would sing it wor-ray, which annoys me to no end, lol. This is a fun journey that is just beginning! :)

@@chrissyalapo-calg9748 oh your reference maybe red velvet from 2019 eras, which is true. But now they become more c- above after they cb with many songs that has the complex range vocal such as Feel my rythm, cosmic love. etc, ( and irene solo comeback that you could hear she really improve so much and surprise many fans) bcz only wendy and seulgi got explore the vocal back then before psycho's era, the range become wider meaning that leading to that they upgrading their abilities
