The problem with learning to speak English is that people who speak English as their mother language are hostile to foreigners and try to humiliate people who have a foreign accent. Those of us who speak Romance languages, such as Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, tend to be patient and grateful to those who try to speak our languages. If you guys, those who speak English, show patience and respect, foreigners would be able to learn your language in a less stressful way.
@nnebundoannaobi13864 жыл бұрын
I agree with what you have said. Generally, I have observed that some native English speakers can get dismissive if the student doesn't have the "right" accent. The most important thing is for a student to have good pronunciation so that what they are trying to say is understandable. Just because someone has the "right" accent doesn't mean that one can understand what they are saying. It makes me upset when people are rude to my mom because of her accent, but she's a native English speaker like me. I'm a native English speaker who speaks Swedish as well. I had a hard time learning that language but it made me more empathetic towards language learners. Now, I am studying to be an ESL tutor and I like seeing my students grow. Hopefully one day I will be able to find a patient Spanish and French teacher. so I can improve my language skills.

Every day i watch Alisha's videos, about 4 hours a day. i didn't think my listening skill is improved a lot after 2 weeks. At first time, i just understand 30% video content. Now i can grasp Alisha's videos without subtitles. Each video i watch 5 to 6 times or more and then i read phrasal phrases or anything menitoned in the video out loud. I read these things out loud until i can speak fluently and smoothly, like my mother tongue. Especially i learn pronunciation of new word and repeat the word many times. i think if you want to really improve your pronunciation and sound like a native speaker, you must learn the International Phonetic Alphabet. I think pronouncing exactly helps you improve listening skill and speaking skill. Importantly, i would like to say thanks to Alisha for making the useful videos.

I think tip 6 (train responses to common questions) is a really good one for learners, and here's why: I think most native English speakers *also* have trained, instinctual responses to these questions! So if you're worried about maybe sounding robotic or unnatural, please don't be! Literally, every single morning at work I will be asked by several people "how are you today?" and I will automatically respond "yeah, not so bad, yourself?" no matter how my day is *actually* going :') (this is a very British way to behave, but still I think it's helpful here). So definitely have a few easy responses practiced over and over again!

So it is very difficult for another English person or non-native English person to find out that I am not a native English speaking person really. In fact, my problem is grammatical and when I need to speak with someone, I have stuck and start to think the word I need to say. This is a lack of practice I think and I really appreciate it if you do not explain how all English speaking people are disappointed by us foreigners with a lower level of English. Try to go abroad and be with the same behaviour in a foreign country. Be polite and helpful to people, because you never know when and how the case will attract a situation that you will need help according to your foreign language level. Thanks. I am fine and you? :)

Great lesson for me as begginer. I understand any conversation in tv, movies but I can't speak in english. It's traumatic for me. I'm searching words to explain what I want to communicate and I can't find them. Maybe I must find some freinds abroad to not to scary to talk. You have beautiful pronancuation.

Eu realmente não sei se meu vocabulário está limitado a isso. Mas é o primeiro vídeo que eu consigo entender sem legenda em inglês. Ela fala muito bem! Em todos os vídeos. Amei!! I really don´t know if my vocabulary is limeted to that. But it´s my first video that i can understand without english subtitles. She speaks very well in all videos!

I feel like the language - and speed - used here to explain quite simple things is actually advanced. How are people who need to learn ways to introduce themselves, for instance, supposed to follow all the talking that goes into explaining all the nuances? Something to think about... I keep noticing that issue as an English teacher trying to find content for students.

I think that is very useful for people like me, I can't speak or write well enough but I can understand everything. Some people learn the speaking, writing, reading and listening at the same speed, usually at schools or formal education, but sometimes when you learn all by yourself you develop some areas more than others! I don't know if this is very common, but maybe is something to consider when teaching.

They used "switch it up" at the beginning of this video which is a phrasal verb. 30% of how English speakers talk are comprised of phrasal verbs. If you learn phrasal verbs, it helps you sound closer to a native speaker. I do like how they encourage non-native English speakers to ask better questions.
