Poultry Registration UK Deadline (chickens, duck geese and more)

Hi guys, this is one occasion where Ireland is ahead of the UK. When we 1st started keeping chickens back in 2014 we had to register for a flock number, even if we only had 1 hen or 100's of birds. It requires the same information & is also free to register. We never had an problems or heard from the department unless it was texts messages about bird flu outbreaks etc.

And every little thing the government gets involved in usually means more red tape and more costs. It may not cost you to register but you're adding someone else to the government payroll to maintain this data. So, yes it probably does add a cost.

​@ssllylawrence618 It's a department of Gov.ie Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine office (Regional Veterinary Office). We just called in at the local government office & filled in the form, but could probably be done online.

I'm from the US we own just a few backyard chickens only for our consumption. It's probably just a short time when the our government wants us to do the same. The only reason why I and I'm sure others in the US do is so they can control seek out and force people to destroy their chickens if one word of bird flu comes up. I don't know if anyone in the UK keeps up with what's happening in the US but it's scary please comment I'm very interested in any other perspectives there are

We, (the wife and I) have a resident pidgeon that lives in a tree at the gate to our backyard. The tree is not on our property, but the branches overhang our path and the bird sits on that. so technically is it on our property and more spcifically, do I have to register it as living on our land or not? We do put some food out for it when the weather is a bit rough, but as for it's purpose I'm also clueless what to call it on the form. Can anyone help ?

I sell feed in wales, trading standards asked me to take names and addresses of bird keepers 8 years ago!!!, I asked can you make me do this?, he said no so I obviously never did it, I would have lost all my trade over night!!, we’ve had the socialists running wales for years because people are stupidly voting for them 🤷, now you have them in England!!!, here’s the thing, now this is law if people don’t comply they’ll come for feed shop owners like me!!!!, I might have to stop selling poultry feed!!!, this is something bird keepers haven’t thought of yet, this could get ugly fast.

when it asks flock size, is that breeding flock or does it include chicks you grow to full size? ie if you have say 1 cock and 7 hens (8) but with chicks it increases to 8 plus 50 chicks to POL, is that 8 or 58?
