Darling Anna, thank you so much, this video has brought so much encouragement to me. I emigrated about a year ago to Germany (my native language is Spanish) and I feel very upset and even depressed when I feel that "I'm not making any progress", nonetheless I appreciate so much all of the advise you've given us here and I'll be sure to put it in practice as I strive for fluency in German. Thank you, Anna! Great video, very good to see you back again. Totally agreed, we need a good dose of resilience to learn a language successfully. We are going to fail many times, and don't understand what people are saying, but that's part of the process. It's a continuous training.

Hi, in my experience, we learn a new language to communicate with different people, so for doing it I think, vocabulary and having good pronunciation are so important, grammar rules are important too but not so important as pronunciation and vocabulary. Even without knowing the grammar, we can say what I mean to the other person.

Me at 3:03 "Holy s***, English isn't her native language?" From your accent and proficiency in speaking I immediately assumed you were an American.
@king4bear3 жыл бұрын
@Santino Vergara Castro Your opinion. As someone who's lived here my entire life, I had no idea she wasn't native until she said it.
@king4bear3 жыл бұрын
@Santino Vergara Castro As an actual American with a shitty American education, I have no idea what the "indefinite article" that was supposed to be used there was. But, it sounded good to me. I may have a "very bad ear" for my own language though. As you so astutely pointed out. If you'd accurately read my original comment you'd have noticed that I said "I didn't notice she wasn't native until 3:03 when she said it." I didn't mention anything beyond that point in the video. And I will reiterate again, she DOES sound American. That is an unmistakable American accent she's adopted. You can say whatever you want about her grammar, but her pronunciation comes off as native the majority of the time.

Sometimes I cannot hear clearly some things spoken or sung in my native language (especially when watching TV) and really at those times, I just don't even care much and implicitly assume that they just say unclearly or my ears have some temporary issue. But strangely when the language is English, at those times of not hearing clearly and getting lost, I just feel embarrassed and think to myself that I'm so bad and hopeless. That's partly because of my fairly much time invested in listening practice as well as the fact that sometimes before I could listen well but sometimes I can't do as well as how I did. It's like my listening skill is not getting better or simply reaches my limit.

i did learn English by watching stuff for years... i mean i don't even remember my own native languages grammatical rules, just write and talk how it feels right, the same goes for German and English, i could not tell or write down even one grammatical rule from any of the 3 languages i know, i just use them as they feel right... I learned German as second language in school, verbally i was the best in my school ( watched a crap ton of German tv channel's), but cos i always sucked at actual real learning, writing and all the rules of the language, i was barely hitting the bar. even now, i understand English except some of the place specific lingo, the same for German, but cos i dont use them often, my speaking skills suffered thru time.
