Why balloons?
Using balloons in ESL classes is one of the exciting methods to teach any topic since small kids love to play with it.
How to use them in ESL classes?
Initially, I used balloons for phonics but later when I found kids loved it, then I use them for various topics, as I mentioned in the video like short/long vowels, CVCs, colors, numbers, shapes, rhyming words, countries, reading, sight words, letters, phonics, names, and so on.
How to Play?
As I already mentioned various topics you can use balloons in your classes. Today I will just show you how I use them for phonics ( CVCs) in a productive and well-deciplined way.
Before the class blow the balloons as many as students. After you teach the content and once they are comfortable with it, bring them to the class and write all the words ( or whatever you teach ) on the balloons and keep repeating them while you writing.
Once you ready, explain the game rules for better understanding and production, since kids getting crazy when they see the balloons, and most probably will start shouting, screaming and fighting.
Play any exciting music and better to join them to make it more lively.
Keep tossing and hitting the balloons up in the air. when the music stops, everyone gets any random balloon and sit down. The teacher now calls out students' names one by one to come to the front, spell and read the word.
Students can take the balloons when the class is over.
