Mam, you are a perfect teacher. Your teaching style, speed of speaking, and pronunciation are amazing. We understand you in an easy way and learn by your lessons very quickly. There are so many fake teachers on youtube, and they Don't know good English but they shamefully come to teach us Englash. I would like to advise them to learn good English by your lessons. Thanks

Thanks so much teacher 🌹 Could you explain phrasal verbs such as(go past ,walk past, run past ..etc) in short detail, please
@EnglishWithEm
@EnglishWithEm Жыл бұрын
You're welcome. Those are actually not phrasal verbs. 'Past' functions as an adverb (if there is no object), or a preposition (if there is an object). He walked past. (adverb) He walked past us. (preposition) Phrasal verbs have a different meaning to the original verb. For example, 'take' is completely different to 'take part'. In the case of 'walk past', the verb 'walk' simply means 'walk'. 'Past' tells us where, but it does not modify the meaning of the verb.

Thanks always. Actually, I wasn't used to this phrasal verb "turn down", but thanks to you, now I know how to use it. Here are my examples.🥰👐 We tried our best to pull off the deal, but they turned down our proposal. A: Stop playing that song. I'm really sick of it. B: Sorry, but it's stuck in head. A: In that case, turned the volume down a little.
@EnglishWithEm

@@EnglishWithEm Thanks a lot 🥰🙏 I corrected it. 1. In that case, please turn down the volume a little. 2. In that case, can you turn down the volume a little? 3. Really? In that case, it would be nice if you turned down the volume a little.

@@EnglishWithEm Excuse me, Emma. Can I ask a question? I was always curious about which word I should use between "then" and " in that case " in the context above reply. All right. Then I want you to turn down the volume. All right. In that case, I want you to turn down the volume.
@EnglishWithEm
@EnglishWithEm Жыл бұрын
@@please_healtheworld 'Then' and 'in that case' are synonyms, but I think 'in that case' sounds better. I'm not really sure why! 😆 Thinking about the way I would respond, I'd probably say: Fine, but can you at least turn it down?

I offered my friend to go out for a movie tonight but she turned down the offer. Turn the temperature of A.C. down as its getting to chilly .
@EnglishWithEm
@EnglishWithEm 11 ай бұрын
Nice examples! A few small corrections: In the first, I'd say 'I offered to take my friend out for a movie...' (because we offer to do something for someone, or offer someone something, but not offer someone to do something). In the second: Turn the temperature of the AC down as it's getting too chilly. ('the' is needed with 'AC' because we are talking about a specific air conditioner). Nice use of 'chilly' by the way!

@@EnglishWithEmould it be wrong to say? : Teacher EM never turns down.... or Teacher EM does never turn down... (sometimes I've never understood the use of the auxiliary verb 'do', besides being politer... i.e.: I like to drink water. or I do like to drink water. (I don 't find the meaning to compare with my native language (Spanish) beyond strengthen or qualifying the action... 'Me gusta beber agua' or 'Me encanta beber agua'. Other option is that between English and Spanish there are inequalities and, that's all!

@@EnglishWithEmgood evening ma'am I appreciate your correction.👏👏 But I knew that rule that the double negatives would not be acceptable. Thank you ☺️☺️ Keep correcting me if I make a mistake again.
@dan93431
@dan93431 Жыл бұрын
@@Jmdr1964 according to me I like to drink water means you are emphasizing your sentence that you really like to drink water. By the way teacher EM never turns down is grammatically correct. Wait for teacher EM's reply to get more information from her😊😊😊.
@EnglishWithEm
@EnglishWithEm Жыл бұрын
@@Jmdr1964 'Teacher EM does never...' sounds very strange. The auxiliary verb is used for questions and negatives: Does she turn people down? She doesn't turn people down. It isn't usually used in positive structures except to refute or emphasise something. A: She doesn't turn people down. B: You're wrong. She DOES turn people down. A normal sentence: I like pizza. Adding emphasis: A: You don't like pizza. B: Actually, I DO like pizza. 😊😊🌻🌻😊😊🌻🌻
