Probably the reason most Chinese series are dubbed is because of so much "on set" and random sounds off set. I've heard a motorbike start up in an alleyway below the set, in one fantasy costume drama lol.

No that’s not the reason why. Why do you think historical drama are more dubbed than modern ones. It’s because the real voice of the person doesn’t fit the character. For example in this show luo yunxi voice is not dubbed because they basically made the show especially for him, literally no joke the director said on a Weibo if luo yunxi didn’t come they woulda cancel the show, also luo yunxi is acting rn with injuries as well from his past firefighter show but still came.His voice wasn’t dubbed because it fits with his character. But bai Lu on the other hand her voice got dubbed because it didn’t fit the character, bai Lu voice is too deep to be used in any main character historical drama leads because her voice is more on the manly side. That’s why love is sweet she didn’t get a dub because in that show she was a lead that was suppose to be powerful which fitted her kinda manly voice

@@stevenchen9852 Ahhh, beautiful. Thanks for the explanation. When earliest movies were silent, then they figured out how to add audio, many "stars" of that time tanked badly, because they had "strange" voices that didn't seem to fit their own faces or "characters". They couldn't make the transition from silent movies to ones where speech was heard. Of course, dubbing was figured out after that...

Aside because to fit the character. Sometimes, it could also because those actor's dialek. China is so big and have a lot of dialek (is that the english term? I mean different city, different chinese language) and most of the times those actors can't do the standard mandarin (the national language for China). Luo Yunxi also a voice actor, I heard he dubbing in anime too.

@@SunaKo271 ah yes, different local or regional accents, dialects. I've detected slightly different ones where they've used voices of the actors (hoping the closed captions were accurate lol!) It's interesting. Also heard people on one series speaking Cantonese and wow! very different tonal sounds. Dialect is the word, yes. I find it fascinating, actually.

@@Kayenne54 yup, totally different tones and words. And since in chinese language tone has a very important role. Same word but different tone would be a different meaning. And I think acting while minding it would affect the acting. I'm a chinese with another nationality. And aside from Mandarin, I only knew hokkien lol and in my community aside from hokkien another one that popular is Kong hu which I don't understand even a single word lol Chinese is hard 😭🤣🤣
