I'm pretty sure your information is partially false? Holostar was meant to have a way more focus on the idol aspect compared to the youtubery feel of hololive. It's not that successful, because of lack of promotion. And at this point, it's kind of awkward to merge them with hololive because of idol/waifu culture, but certain hololive members like fubuki and matsuri are trying to help them out with collabs now. The point is, they were MEANT to be separated from the start.

Nope, they're not separated just because of backlash. They actually had restrictions to interact with Hololive members before said restriction is removed September 2019. The current separation is probably due to fear of backlash but the previous one is because of their own restriction. There's also the branding that Holostars are separate from Hololive so they're managed by a different office than Hololive so collabs need a talk to both management. Meanwhile Nijisanji never have that kind of restrictions and managed by one management so it's easier for them to do collab.
