I finally understand the ending. Both SURVIVED. Zhou learnt the Combined Six Cultivation Power through Wen which should have costed Wen's his life, BUT Ye Bai yi TRANSFERRED the Combined Six Cultivation Power to Wen before they all head to the armory!! No wonder Ye said they are all idiots and nobody would die when he's alive, 'no one could die before me'. Meanwhile, Ye's ready to pass on to join his friend Qing, that's why he said '...have struggled for all these years, turn out it's all for today. It's hard to go back to the time of youth, but there are always people in youth'(Ye could never go back to his time of youth when his friend Qing was still alive, but he could pass on this wish to the people in youth) - You are welcome.

This isn't the true canonical ending and I'll explain why. At the end of the scene, Chengling tells his students that the Combined Six Cultivation method requires one person to become a furnace for the other, but what the actor actually says is that the method requires two people whose hearts are connected and have fallen in love so deeply that instead of one person sacrificing himself for the other, they will both become immortals. Considering that Chengling grew up seeing Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing's undying love and devotion for one another, he knows they're still alive.

Notice when they were in the armory, Ah-Xu kept looking for food; he wanted Lao Wen to survive in the Armory if he was not cured and die, while Lao Wen focused on looking for the Combined Six Cultivation Power book cause he wanted Ah-Xu to live. Why the viewing public must assume that the relationship is unconsummated lacks adult maturity, fixated in a pre-adolescent phase of psychosexual development. Yes, maturity has its price but also rewards. Buber explains the 'I-Thou' ideal is difficult to achieve and maintain, but believe me it is worth all the effort. If these two are actually lovers its would provide the motivation to do this series BECAUSE they are in love and consummated their bond/

After rewatching this, I can see why Wen Kexing didn't tell Zhou Zishu about his plan to sacrifice his life for him. For starters, he doesn't believe he's worthy of Zhou Zishu's love in the first place and was even afraid of losing him once Zhou Zishu found out the truth about his identity as a criminal warlord. His traumatic past has rooted itself so deeply into his core that it shattered his self-esteem to the point where he thinks Zhou Zishu's life is infinitely worth more than his so when given the option, he will always choose death even if it kills Zhou Zishu's soul in the process because he absolutely cannot survive the pain of losing the only light he's ever had in his life.

經朋友介紹看山河令，從開始的平淡無奇到後來的欲罷不能，以至回頭去看原著。我想該劇首先成功之處是選對了演員，雙男主真是又帥又能演，把一對失散多年的師兄弟的兄弟情演的感人肺腑，超越了我們一般定義的愛情。阿絮看老溫溫柔的眼光能融化所有人的心，他對老溫的包容、理解讓這個師弟從鬼變成了人。老溫對阿絮無微不至的關愛和不惜付出生命的代價讓人動容，真希望現實生活裡也能遇上這樣的伴侶。沒想到該劇能在中國播出，畢竟這類題材比較敏感，但他們的表演不會讓人有色的感覺，遠比小說更勝一籌。編劇非常成功，去除了小說裡的糟粕，取其精華，加上其他演員的精彩演出，使得該劇讓人留下深刻印象，欲罷不能。

@@paulinemiganda236 The instruments used in the music in this drama include Guzheng 古筝, Guqin 古琴 (has a deeper sound than Guzheng, this is the one played by Lan Zhan in The Untamed), Dizi 笛子 (a kind of Chinese flute, held sideways, this is the one played by Wei Wuxian in The Untamed), Xiao 箫 (held vertically and played by blowing at one end of it, sounds lower and deeper than Dizi, this is the one played by Wen Kexing in the Wuxia drama called Word of Honor), Pipa 琵琶 (a sonorous, four-stringed, pear-shaped instrument held upright on the lap when played, sounds very intense, this is the one played by the Scorpion King in Word of Honor), Hulusi 葫芦丝 (cucurbit flute, sounds very beautiful and melodious, from Yunan province, in the south of China). There are also other instruments which are not used in this drama, like Erhu 二胡 (two-stringed, sounds very sad, like the voice of humans), Suona 唢呐 (very loud, used at both traditional Chinese weddings and funerals). My favorites are Guzheng, Guqin, Xiao and Pipa. Since I watched Word of Honor, I love Xiao and Pipa more. The way Wen Kexing played the Xiao made of white jade is so elegant.☺️ Also, the Scorpion King playing the Pipa at 18:55 of episode 6 looks so cool. 😁 At 19:55 of episode 4, Qin Song, one of the four assassins of the Scorpion also played the Pipa. These musical instruments playing many ancient and modern songs can be found on KZbin. There is also a channel called ‘Zi De Guqin Studio’. Hope u enjoy them.☺️🥰❤️❤️🥰

Y'all don't need EP37 to prove that it's a happy ending! 1. Cheng Ling's daughter is named Nian Xiang, which means "remembering/missing Ah Xiang" in Chinese. （念湘=想念阿湘）WHICH MEANS LAO WEN IS NOT DEAD 2.. (Due to Chinese censorship...)The grown-up Cheng Ling is actually saying: "they are willing to sacrifice for each other and save each other without hesitation" and the kid "So are they alive?" 3. Ah Xu got Lao Wen's hands! (meaning that he can save him!) (I believe there's a meaning behind this scene) and as suggested by @Julia Zhou, the BGM was “你在我也在”means you& I are here. and Cheng Ling's wife is UNKNOWN! Xiao Lian is NOT his wife, just elder sister! Edited: Me trying to develop a logical explanation: Probably YBY has told a lie to WKX when he explained how to use 六合心法 to save ZZS, as WKX has to be willing to sacrifice himself for ZZS. Another point is that 六合心法 they found is not complete. YBY is the only person who knows 六合心法. So only YBY knows that 六合心法 needs *two* people being willing to sacrifice for each other (this is supported by CL's words too). ZZS also read 六合心法 and I think what WKX is saying is probably the same as the content of 六合心法. He's probably too shocked to see WKX turning into white hair... There are so many alternative explanations of EP36... so feel free to imagine... For me, it's not that important as long as they are alive
