Size up ... i only knew it in the secondary meaning. But I am from the UK. Dish out isnt common in uk cafes restaurants (eatery) but is in the home when mothers dish out the food. I e. put it on the plates rather than putting it in tureens for people to help themselves.

As a native English speaker, but a student of multiple foreign languages, I love phrasal verbs! Knowing that they exist and how they work is being forearmed when it comes to learning another language. I used to use ´´to break´´ as an example to ESL speakers, as you can break in, break out, break up, break down, or break off. But having watched the videos with ´´to cut´´ and esp ´´to take´´, with 10 different combinations, will be using that in future. Also note the ones that are separable or inseparable, such as ´´to look up to´´, ´´to stand for´´, or ´´to fall back on´´.

Hi Adam - great video, I dont know whether this is a UK English thing but 'light up' can also mean to light a cigarette. And 'beat to' when used with certain words can also mean to fight someone to a certain degree (I'll give you an example) "I had a fight with John the other day and beat him to a pulp" means I beat him up very badly.
