And is there any way that I can teach my kids to make the difference on when to write with double oo, letter “u” or “ou” ? Or is just learning the words as it is? Thank you!

Actually, the vowel sound in these families: ook, ould, pull, bull, etc. is indeed shorter but it is NOT short u. The short u comes in closed syllable only, in words such as up, much, crunch. Your drawings and video is nicely comprehensive. Thank you.
