Getting knowledgeable enough about these Greek prefixes and suffixes can come in pretty handy sometimes. This lesson reminded me of some and the “poly” and “tele” parts were so much fun. Bye the way, teleporting would be a blessing to break through the cacophony issue I have to deal with here in Brazil whenever I needed to.

Hi Jade! You are doing a great job. I truly enjoy your educational videos. The way you explain the grammar has helped to improve my communicative skills and to interpret myself confidently. I would like to share with you that POLY means LOT, many, various, it refers to the category of polymers when Poly many and Mers parts. This definition gives you a clearer insight. Thank you for the lessons and keep teaching us how to speak impeccable. Keep the spirit!!!

Hi Jade. I am a 21yo Italian native speaker and I have moved in the UK 2 years ago. I came across your KZbin channel and I find your videos really helpful to practise my English as I have literally started watching them every day! I had a quick question for you. I have been thinking to buy your accent training pack but I am not sure if that will help me to reduce my Italian/British accent? I work/study during the week so I am constantly surrounded by an English-speaking environment. The problem I have is that as soon as I get home I tend to speak in my native language with my family. My listening is really good and I don't have problems to understand people. However, I am really keen to improve my speaking skills and increase my overall confidence when speaking in public.What would be the easiest way to reduce my Italian accent and gain a more natural British accent? Thanks in advance. :)

@English Jade... I'm really fond of your videos and the way you teach. The only mystery which I haven't solved yet is the brummie accent. I enjoy learning languages but I also prefer to know more about the accents and how to be able to "fake them". However, the brummie accent is a mystery to me. I'd be very grateful to get some kind of an explanation about that accent :)

Dear Jade, thanks for your excellent lessons! Authority without the arrogance. Or something like that. One small remark: in Greek words ending on -ma those letters are part of the stem. So rarely will you find a compound with -o. So no dermo + x, but just derma + tology. Just as in (ma)thematic, rheumatology. It's a different situation from psyche e.g., where the 'e' is not part of the stem.

just as a remark : cacophony is made out from caco (κακό=bad) and phony (φωνή-voice). Cleptomania comes out from clepto (κλέφτης-thief) and mania (μανία-mania,obsession). Poly (πολύ-much,many) Microcosm (micro,μικρό-small, as you said and cosm-κόσμος--world,universe)

Hey Jade, I never commented on your videos (both channels) but I´d like to say to you that you are doing a great job. And as a request... have you ever considered making a video on the different uses of "just"? I don´t mean the usual ones... I´m not very sure of this because I can´t recall examples of what I mean but sometimes I get the feeling that I don´t understand what it exactly conveys. May be... for example when you say "I just didn´t see you" or "it´s just you vs it´s only you" or "it´s just here vs it´s right here"-.. I really can´t think of the ones that I really don´t understand probably just because of that.. Thank you !

Taichientaoyin Np. An Estuary accent is probably the most common accent in those areas, but there's also others, especially in London. Estuary accent is sort of between a London Cockney accent and Received Pronunciation accent (BBC). London also has a "London youth accent", which is horrible in my opinion and filled with slang vocabulary. There's also a trashy Essex accent, but not many people speak with it, but to other native speakers it sounds uneducated and dumb.

Hi Jade, great video just a small remark. All of this "greek" words are actually latin (or correlated with/from modern latin).
@MeTheRob
@MeTheRob 8 жыл бұрын
Look in an etymological (another Greek word) dictionary. All the medical terms discussed here come from Greek roots, except mania, which is a Latin word deriving from Greek. So do all the others : tele, phone, graphy, ology, micro, kilo, metre, gram, geo etc etc. The only other Latin words I heard were the amor (love) part of polyamorous, and the port part of teleport, from portare - to carry.
@silvio01stefano

"Word Origin and History for derma n. "skin beneath the epidermis," 1706, from Modern Latin derma, from Greek derma (genitive dermatos) "skin," from PIE root *der- "to split, peel, flay" (see tear (v.))." www.dictionary.com/# You and Jade are right, the words have "roots" from Greek origin but are not entirely Greek words, these words are Greek (many of these via Latin). It not "fair" to say the words are Greek. Don't forget that all, (or in grand part) the medical/species etc vocabulary have a latin denomination due to best spread language at the time. www.ruf.rice.edu/~kemmer/Words04/structure/borrowed.html
