The Engwe battery is a lot better than I reported on this video. While I got 22 miles during this test, I was able to get 32 miles on my battery range test riding at PAS 3 on cruise control!
To purchase an Engwe ebike, please use this link:

My recommendation is to order the version that includes a second battery! It is well worth the $50 extra! It is called the EP-2 Pro (Battery Pack) on the website.

Here's the link to download the 3D printing file. I used the "No Supports" version. Do not over tighten as it could break the plastic thumb throttle. Tighten enough so it doesn't spin, but don't over do it. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2724730/files

Russ, I have this bike (older version with 12.8v battery) for about 3 mos now. Loving it! Of course like most ebikes, changed grips, peddles, and seat makes it greater bike. Also on the real responsive turning, I added wider handlebars 660mm and makes steering much less squirrelly. Also I change freewheel to 11-28 to keep up with peddles, use mainly PAS. Changed brakes to hydraulic hybrid. Can’t seem to keep my wife off it. Great bike for the money!

Excellent detailed review Russ. Nice foldable bike, very similar to my Lectric XP 2.0. The Engwe has superior range and bigger motor 750 watts to the Lectric with a great price and 2 batteries at $1,099. I mostly ride in PAS 4 20+mph so my range is less but a lot of fun! The Engwe is a great entry level type bike. Anxious to upgrade to the Cruiser Pro when I get back from vacation next month.

I have owned this bike for about 4 weeks. My bike has a different controller (TZ5). Egnwe needs to post a video explaining the controller parameters and how they should be adjusted. The kickstand malfunctioned after about 20 uses. It tilted too far forward when down and weight was applied resulting in the bike leaning too much. I fixed the problem using a button size rare earth magnet placed in the metal part of the mechanism to serve as a stop. It's a poor design with cheap plastic parts that break easily. You had a standard delivery for FedEx. My box was also damaged. Only damage to the bike was the derailleur protecter was bent inward. The fork shipping brace was also not attached. No bent fork or squeaking brakes, but the gear indexing needed some adjustment. Battery rattles, but this can be improved with thin stick on pads. This is a great value if it proves reliable.

I like the bike a lot overall. I have the older model with the slightly smaller battery. I like the throttle being dependent on PAS level, it makes it very intentional how fast you want to go. Level 3 or less is good for the paths. It’s also pretty customizable in the settings, so you can add levels and adjust their behavior. That’s a good deal with the double battery. I got the bike itself for substantially less, but no double battery deal back then. I’ve gotten it to 35 miles on one battery putting in some work at level 2 and 3. Don’t trust the battery gauge though, had it give out on me on a trip to the pool a couple weeks ago. Said I still had battery, it gave out on the way back going up the big hill. I’m able to pedal it, but you’d have been in trouble (luckily you’ll have a second battery). It gets some significant sag, so the meter fluctuates a lot under load (drops to 2 bars, but you back off a bit and it comes back up to 3 or 4).

@@RussIsRight Pretty impressive, for a 750 w motor, I wonder how their customer service is compared to the more established brands. Lectric and RAD do very well in that dept. Lectric owners always seem to have a problem with range anxiety and they price their batteries so high that it keeps people from buying an extra one. Mike from Long Island here, wonderful review Russ. Just yesterday I asked you about the ocelot. I know you are very excited to check that one out. So am i. But it appears they're not shipping until the end of september. And I would hate to waste a month not riding with my wife. Now that you did this review on the engwe, and considering it seems to have what I want, especially the fact that my wife and I but typically Cruise between 8 and 12 mph all the time and you indicate the slow pedal assist modes might be perfect for that, looks like I should consider this bike. Also, I believe the folding aspect for me is important because we might want to take it various places and I have a Nissan rogue and I wonder if two bikes would fit in the back. And considering it's half the price of the ocelot, don't you think it's worth it? Seems like you got around really well on it and you were not complaining in terms of comfort. And the cruise control is a nice feature. The bottom line is we typically do gentle cruising through neighborhoods, and then we will take some trips each summer to Parks etc for some trail cruising in which case we'll need to transport. And the second battery option is so obvious. One last thing, do you think it's okay to always fold and unfold the bike to remove the battery? I don't have electric in my shed so I would have to remove the battery and take it inside. Do you think over time that would be a problem? Thanks again and we'll speak soon.

The only thing I did not like about this ebike is that it doesn't have a lot of torque going up hills. On a couple of videos coming up in the next few days, you'll see me riding it at a state park. I could not get up the hills with it! Granted, it was rather steep hills, it just could not do it. The Oscelot Pro would most likely get up over those hills because even my wife's RAD Mini Step Thru 2 bike could have made it up the hills where this one could not. So, if you have hills to conquer, then this bike is not for you. The Oscelot Pro would definitely have made it. It has the same torque as the Cruiser. But, if you don't have big hills to climb, it's hard to beat this bike for the money. As for folding it over and over, it should be ok. The only thing will be the latch will eventually loosen up. There is a set screw that holds the latch locked in place. You might have to adjust that over time. It is what keeps the latch from opening up too easily. Oh, also, they only include one charger. If you want a second charger for the second battery, it's only available on Amazon: amzn.to/3AscRnb
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
Oh, one more thing... while the saddle is ok, it's not the best. You might want to upgrade it. Many people upgrade saddles... they don't always give you the best. While this saddle is cushy, it's not the best. I usually go with the Bikeroo saddle with elastomers (not springs). See the description of the video for my accessories.
@MikeDPV01
@MikeDPV01 Жыл бұрын
Almost no hills here. Just occasional small inclines. The main thing for me is my wife is not the most steady or the most athletic. Utmost concern is her safety. Torque is nice when you need it but it's not definitely high on my list. Comfort and bike stability the most important. And maybe a better seat with suspension would help. At this price you're right it's hard to beat. I see that heybike makes one of the similar price but without a second battery. But the battery location seems to be much better under the seat. I suppose that's my doubt having the battery in the down tube.
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
Small inclines should be ok. Big inclines, forget it. As for the battery, many bikes like this put it in the frame to keep it out of the way. And, nobody can steal this battery without a key. I'm not kidding. You cannot pull this battery out unless you have a key. Also, the second battery has its own key. They are not key'ed alike. Good and bad. Good that someone with a similar key cannot get to the battery, bad that you must carry two individual keys with you if you bring your second battery with you. Of course, if you lock up your bike, you should take that second battery with you and not leave it on the rear rack. I'll be working on a battery range test today. Watch for the video in an upcoming video.

@Mike Durso Before you order anything, I have an email to the company to confirm if the 2 battery version is the new upgraded bike or not. A subscriber noticed that the photo is different from my bike. I sent them the video to watch before publication to be sure they were ok with what I was saying about the product specs and they said nothing about it. If it is the older frame / motor, then that changes things of course. The bike itself (the newest version) is fine... but the deal with two batteries might be for the older bike. We'll see. I'll let you know after I hear from them. Sorry for the confusion.

I find that mirrors in non standard positions. Get knocked around a bit more. I would keep a spare in case. I myself ride with 4 mirrors just like the scooters in the movie Quadrophenia. Sting rode the coolest scooter and i like the look on my trike. ;-)

About half way, did you pass by a nun? At first she looked like a ghost. Seems like a fun bike. My ebike, a Magnum, has a 500 w motor and I have to downshift to go up big hills. But it does it.

My bike had a problem, it obviously needed fixing, and a part to fix the fault, a cable, or maybe a motor. I go to the engwe site, no parts there, so email support@engwe email on the site. No reply. I then try service@ email asking what my error code was, which part? They reply eventually saying there's no such fault. Can I send them a video of the fault. Of me twisting the throttle and nothing working? I sent the error code display, which obviously exists. They still know nothing about that code. 7 emails, each asking for where I get parts? Which bafang motor will fit in the wheel if they can't supply parts Never answered. I gave up after 7 pointless emails with the last from them suggesting I take it to a maintenence hub...but no clue where they are located. Useless.

Hey I got a question. I’m looking to buy this bike, but do you think the battery will survive if you’re cycling for around 4 to 5 hours?
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
No. You would need to change out batteries. Get the two battery option on this bike if you plan to ride for a long time.
@raziel88
@raziel88 Жыл бұрын
@@RussIsRight I would definitely get the second battery. But I’m looking to get an e-bike for my job as a delivery driver in the Netherlands, which requires 4 to 5 hours of cycling give or take. I wouldn’t want to spend more than a thousand euros on a bike, but if you say one battery won’t last for 4 hours at least, then I guess I’ll have no choice..
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
@@raziel88 I suppose if you used a very low pedal assist and didn't throttle, it could last... but as a delivery driver, I doubt you would wan the workout! You'd likely want to throttle a bunch of the time and that won't work on one battery for that long. I am a big guy and weigh a lot, but with two batteries, I was able to pedal and use the throttle for around 33 miles on this bike with one battery. This was very conservatively riding and not going very fast. For delivery, you need to move a lot faster than that, so your mileage would drop significantly. Two batteries would definitely be something to consider with the second battery strapped to the rear rack. But then you have to wonder about how you would put your items if you are delivering things. I once did a ride with my wife and we went around 30 miles and I used up both batteries and I was going around 12 mph both pedaling and throttling. So there is a big difference in how hard you use that throttle.
