For the cat litter I hot glued it to some Popsicle sticks and made a tool. Like the tool you have for pushing in bricks.

pink insulation foam you can pick it up at the hardware store

Does styrofoam work

Styrofoam is much harder to use, as it flakes off in little static bits and sticks to everything and never cuts nearly as neatly as insulation foam.
