Jay was born in Seattle but moved away when he was 9. So English is his first language, but you can tell he didn’t speak it constantly after leaving the US because you can see him thinking hard and stumbling occasionally. So first language but not primary language. That being said, it is NOT a criticism, just an observation. He still does amazing. Anyone who’s bilingual to any level to me is incredible. Jake is primary language English though, so when he speaks it’s not about being amazed for his English skills, it’s 100% about the Aussie accent. What American doesn’t love to hear and Aussie accent 😂. I don’t understand Korean, but I’m going to act like I do and be amazed with his Korean skills like I am with any of these guys learning English as a second (or third) language. NiKi is really amazing. He’s from Japan. Came to Korea knowing no Korean. Learned it enough to communicate efficiently in just months and now is picking up English too. He struggles with both sometimes, but Jay is also learning/ knows Japanese, so he helps NiKi with translating when needed. So basically they are all amazing in my eyes. Not only incredibly talented in the artistic realm, but language gifted too. It’s incredible.

Jake was born in Korea and is full blood Korean but lived almost his entire life in Australia and spoke English only. He came to Korea on his own barely speaking Korean but once he was employed by Big Hit as a trainee his parents moved back to Korea so he could live with them while he was a trainee. Now that is parental support.
