I’ve noticed that Bighit’s group leaders are never the oldest member. That it’s a member that’s in the middle. This lets the younger members feel more comfortable talking to the leader; it also takes most of the pressure off the oldest member, and it gives the leader someone to lean on if they need help. It’s just a theory of mine.

no, namjoon was the leader because he was the first to join and had a bridge between the company (because they trusted him) and the members (because they trusted him). Also, he produces and writes a lot of their songs. Jungwon was the leader because Heeseung denied it and they voted for him in enhypen and hi. The company never chooses leaders of groups (that I know of), it's usually chosen during trainee days and a personally naturally takes the place.

Explanation about Heeseung giving up the leader position: The members are not scared to talk to heeseung just because he is the oldest member, in fact he is close to everyone. The members voted him as the best secret keeper among the members because they always talk to him and shares their worries to heeseung. He is a good listener too, reliable hyung even though he acts as the maknae sometimes. He knows when to act serious and fool around. He is voted as the funniest member too so how can the members gets scared of him when he is their comedian. The reason why he is not the leader is because heeseung is the core of enhypen. It’s hard for him to be a leader when he had so much roles in the group. So bL decided to give the leader position to jungwon as he is the second member who fits the position too. And heeseung added that he is contented on being the reliable hyung to his members. It’s like bangtan, jin is the eldest but namjoon is the leader 😉

But BL explained to him some role only he can take and will be burdened if he'll take the leadership as well.

Heeseung and Jungwon were the candidates for leadership but heeseung is the eldest and the Center so both heeseung and the company agreed that it would be too much for him to handle so that’s why they made Jungwon the leader. Heeseung never really wanted to be the leader in I-land either if you think about it he was always chosen by other people and not because it was something he wanted to do.

@@koriboyd9530 it was mostly conflict between Heeseung and K. I don’t defend K blindly. I know it was Heeseung’s team not K, and he shouldn’t take it over. But saying that they were ALL scared to talk to him is that I’m not convinced. Songhoon and Jay never said it, but of course they thought the practice atmosphere was uncomfortable because of that. I don’t know I just thought the whole story seemed shady and fishy because of weird/evil editing since there was no any interview on K to tell his side of thoughts.

4:47 well, that’s not it They interviewed each member and gave them various tests, based on that HEESEUNG and JUNGWON were selected as the two candidates but since HEESEUNG is the oldest member and he’s also the core of their performance, they said if he becomes the leader on top of that, then how many roles would he have on his shoulders. So they were concerned about whether that would be the right thing for HEESEUNG and if it’s a good way for HEESEUNG to do more for the team. Here’s what HEESEUNG said about why he turned down the leader role: “I thought that I could offer help in more areas if I was in the role of the oldest, and a fellow member rather than the leader. So that’s what I discussed with the company, just because we have one leader, if the rest turn away from their responsibility, then that’s not good. We should build leadership together as a team, each member of the team has to have leadership, and take action to help that role, not just with words, but really help the leader out in order for the whole team to succeed, JUNGWON’s role will be important, but honestly I feel the role of the other members is even more significant. We can think of it like that.”

niki is younger than taki and was the second youngest in iland and about heeseung he actually gave up his position as a leader because it was too much for him being the oldest and center

Niki and Taki were born in 2005, and they are same grade (in Japan). Same as 02line of Jay, Jake and Sunghoon (I don’t know..do they talk about who is younger and older stuff?)

there is a section the the 4th episode of enhypen&hi abt the process of the leader selection, as well as a separate video of it on enhypen's youtube channel...they went thru at least 40 days of tests, questionaries, interview etc to get down to heeseung and jungwonie as the 2 candidates for the leader position. and as many ppl said in the comments, heeseung gave up the position bcs he thought, as well as the company, that that would be the best for the team. and as jungwonie is my bias since way back when episode 2 of iland aired, i was so happy to see him take up that position :) things to watch: -enhypen&hi, 4 episodes (basically important things they did from the night iland ended till the day they dabuted 30.11.) -txt&enhypen playground (2episodes) for good enhypen compilations, i recommend the channel you were on for this video 'attaetude and a channel called Ayland -also, if you watch vlive, maybe chack some of those and of course the content on their official youtube page (for example. they have a halloween version of chamber5 there, so cuteee) thats my ramble
