I mean by this logic why are we learning any facts when we can Google it? It is good to train your cognitive functions to do easy operations in memory. In my school calculator was only allowed on exams since they want just to know if you know how to solve the problem. I am no longer a student (only postgraduate student but it doesn't count) and now I work in education and from my perspective all the informations we are learning 80% or even more we are never gonna use, but what is important are skills we develop along the way.

I’m an American 🇺🇸 Engene, so I wish they would let Jay speak English more and show more of his American side too. I understand the “Aussie accent” like Jake’s is so attractive to EVERYONE worldwide (USA included ☺️), but it still is nice seeing Jay’s American/English background too! In Mexico we can’t use calculator for math except if there are really long procedures. For exams and the class you need to make it mental or in a piece of paper, teachers always says: “I need to grade if you know how to do it” but in physics we are allowed to use it :)

At least for the schools that i have went to in Vietnam, primary school students are not allowed to use calculators. However, when you are older and get into secondary schools, students are allowed to use them since we have more work to do in math but not only just doing the simple addition or subtraction anymore. in my country usually the questions only use special angles so we memorize the sin cos tan in special angles between 0-360 degrees 😭

We indians have all formulas memorized and specific angles for all ratios like 15,18,30,36,37,45,53,60,72,90, and for more than 90° we derive that.

In our country (Bangladesh) you can use a basic calculator in 8th grade and scientific calculator from 9th grade.
